Sometimes you just need to sit down and have a conversation with people. It doesn’t need to be a conversation you rehearse in your head over and over before. I think we sometimes forget that our staff are people (just like us) who are navigating the ups and downs of life and business at different rates than we are.

It’s really important to stay in consistent communication and not have it be something that is simply checking a box and showing that you did what you were “supposed to”. It’s more about getting to know how people think and how everybody can work well together.

When we delay direct conversations, we often let things pile up - resentment, feelings of being misunderstood, and maybe even anger at some points.

I get that you’re putting a lot on the line when you hire staff. You want to be able to rely on them and when they do things “wrong”, it’s this feeling of…”oh boy, have I made a mistake in trusting them?” But the reality is that more often than not, a simple, short, direct conversation can save time and energy for everyone on the team.

An ode to Dolly. These words really speak to me today.

A lot of my clients have been going through a lot lately.

-turnover of staff, people they spent so much time and money hiring and training, only to have them leave with little explanation.
-cash flow running low, business going SO WELL and then poof things slow down just because of the specific industry they work in. And of course it happens right after big investments.
-family issues, parents with illness, relationships that are suffering, friendships that seem impossible to keep up with.

ON TOP OF RUNNING IT ALL.

And I’m so inspired by them and grateful to be in their orbit. Because this is the work. This is how business ownership goes. And if we want to have the best product, service, whatever, the only requirement is to keep going. by @wolfconsultingservices

🤣🤣🤣 this made me laugh so hard. Some weeks….it just be like that LOL. What a blessing to have a business! And also it’s so stressful. And sometimes I just want to run away!

It’s so funny to watch as both myself and my clients bob and weave in and out of the overwhelm, the gratitude for our teams, the stress of feeling like you’re not doing enough even though you’re trying as hard as you can. It really is an interesting thing to navigate.

We all have our titles. CEO, business owner, mom, daughter, partner, friend. But when all of that is stripped away, who are you?

I was so lucky to go on a yoga retreat this weekend with @homebodync and one of my takeaways was how imperative it is for us to find meaning and joy in things outside of our businesses. When I think of the most stressed people I know, I notice that they are forgetting that their whole purpose isn’t just to be a business owner.

The interesting part of all of this is … the more time I take to nurture myself, the better my business becomes. I’m able to lead with more grounded energy. I’m able to process information without getting completely overwhelmed. My ability to deal with difficult situations and difficult people has skyrocketed.

I hear this every day… “If I step away nothing will get done” or “Nobody does it the way I do” or “No one can do it as fast as I can”. But the reality is that when you choose not to step away, you are also choosing to never have a break from your business and your brain can never take a break.

We are all much more layered and interesting than just being business owners. How can you search for more of that in your daily life?

You’re not enjoying your life because you don’t know how to ask for help.
I’m not blaming you, but look around! You’re missing out on this one precious life because you’re always worried, always thinking, always spiraling.
What if someone did something for you at even 70% of how you’d do it? It’s off your plate. your business keeps running. and for once, you get to go breathe.

When I started asking for help and actually hiring people to do work for me, it lightened the weight on my shoulders. You can’t have a successful business if you’re doing it all alone.

Ever since I was a little girl I knew I would find a way to build a business and enjoy my life at the same time.

I’m writing this as I just had my biggest month in business and I’m still trying to find new ways to connect with the people I know I can help.
Still trying to make more moves, know more people, find the right avenues that align with my spirit and also reality. Wahhhh! Everything feels saturated and the world often feels like it’s falling apart.

And also…I get to create my own life. This is the one we chose, right?! So I say we do things the way we want. Of course capitalism is capitalism but why not get creative with it?

As someone who is very passionate about what she does, I can’t believe I’m saying this
I do not want to think about my business all of the time. It’s too much.
I used to think being “on” all the time was worth it. I used to think it would make people respect me more and think that I could do it all.
But it led to me never being able to turn off. I couldn’t have a single thought where I wasn’t worried about what was waiting for me, what I had missed, what I could be improving.
Well that wasn’t good for anyone.
For the past 8 months I have been actively working on creating space so that when I’m working, I’m really getting things done, organizing, and moving the needle - not staring at my computer paralyzed by the next step.
This is a process and we all grow with time, but it took that intention and devotion to my purpose and happiness to get where I am now…and it’s STILL a process!

The summer I played disc golf 🤣🤩 never in a bajillion years did I think I would be out here on these streets (woods) playing disc golf multiple times a week, but here we are folks! 😏 I love being outside and Houston loves playing disc golf and turns out they’re the same thing 🤪 by @wolfconsultingservices
