Northwest Album Of The Day 24

Shao Sosa x Nobi – Lone Wolf And Kub

Music is timeless and life’s greatest time machine. I think we all have a story about some of the first songs we heard our parents playing when we were younger. Imagine the thought of your first introduction to music coming back full circle and being able to re-live that experience in a new way. Maybe it will become something we see more in the future but Shao Sosa’s & Nobi’s “Lone Wolf & Kub” album is one of the few father son album collaborations that I’m aware of. Shao Sosa is an artist I first heard about when he was going by Shaolin on Acropolis Records. It was some of the first rap I had heard about from the eastern side of Washington. His music was definitely more west coast street during this time and I would say even much so until the name changed to Shao Sosa years later. In a lot of ways, you would think this couldn’t work because generationally the music is so different but creatively you can tell a lot of work went into this. A mature Shao Sosa and a young mind like Nobi the balance just works. The album has some lightness but is very personal. The two are able to address some real-life topics but from their own viewpoints and as a listener you can relate to both sides. Conceptually the album is very well put together and I think maybe because of the personal relationship they actually bring out the best in each other!
