hiiii 🙋🏽‍♀️🇲🇽🇺🇸🏳️‍🌈 figured this is a fun way to introduce myself

I obviously like books, but I also like most things outdoors, like backpacking, hiking & camping, olympic weightlifting, traveling, coffee, and cats. my day to day job I work with collegiate athletes and am on the road to be an RD.

My genre range is pretty broad. I mostly go off of whatever I am in the mood for, so don’t ask how my tbr is going lol :)

happy friday friends! 🖤 go treat yo self!! I mean can you really go wrong with a large matcha and breakfast burrito?

ninth house - I don’t remember much except for huge plot points, so re-reading this while @mkm_library has been reading it for the first time has been fun!

king sorrow - @ripped_page_reviews convinced me and 135 pages in, it has not disappointed

last to leave the room - I’ve had this for a hot minute, and 70 pages in so far, I’m hooked. As soon as I realized it was the same author as Milkteeth, I had a feeling I’d like it!

This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar, Mac Gladstone

I will admit, I had not idea what I was getting myself into going in completely blind, but wow it exceeded any subconscious expectations I had. In this book, we flip between two protagonists, Blue and Red - agents of their respective sides of the war who are trying to eradicate the other side by manipulation of different strands of time in the multiverse. They discover each other, leaving intricately hidden letters for the other in their wake. At first they’re mocking, bragging about winning each battle, but they soon turn curious. An unexpected bond develops (swipe for full blurb!)

This is a romance story. Yes it is set in a dystopian future and has sci-fi base, but it is at its heart a romance novella. You’re thrown into the deep end of the world from the start, figuring out what’s going on as the letters are exchanged. Because of its prose and format, it was a wonderful, brief novella.

I loved it. 5⭐️ all around. I am a romantic at heart, and finding each other in different strands of time is my niche weak spot, but, it was beautiful. I enjoyed the character development resulting from their letters and them discovering that maybe there is more than their duty to the war. The prose is quite flowery and can seem a little confusing if you’re not paying full attention. Overall, 1000/10 recommend!

The Sun Has Eyes by @jordandugdaleauthor

My attention was caught immediately when seeing this was a cosmic horror book. Add vampires and cowboys? SOLD. Jordan did an amazing job setting up the atmosphere - a desolate desert where the sun never sets due to a haunting cosmic force - and all the characters. That eerie vibe that someone was always watching you was conveyed well. Each character was unique, and we were provided just enough backstory to latch on and enjoy them as they try to fix the sky and banish this ancient eldritch horror.

This was a fast paced book. I desperately wanted more, and you will, too. I did wish it was a little bit longer so we got more character depth, but with its length, it worked how it is. That being said I would have read it if it was 500+ page book FOR SURE. Overall, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

I think that this author has a bright future ahead! I look forward to seeing what they put out next.

The Cages We Endure: An Anthology
Out now!

@gravebelles thank you so much for getting all these authors together for this horror anthology because we needed a new feminine rage read for October 🔪

@woodrecommend and I had a blast buddy reading this one and Gossamer and Deadline came out as clear winners for our favorite stories. (not that shocking for me since @a.l.sterling has fast become one of my favorite authors and I needed 200 more pages of Deadline immediately)
As avid AI haters we both weren't fans of the two stories that involved AI systems 😅 but overall the stories were killer (see what I did there)
We cannot wait to see what else this Press puts out in the future!
These stories were also written by female and nonbinary authors, so please if you need a little dose of feminine rage and murder and vengeance, please go purchase a copy to read today 🧡 taken in BOOKSTA by @woodrecommend

The Last Contract of Isako by @fonda.lee
This scratched that sci-fi itch gooooood. Set in a city under a dome on a cold, uninhabitable planet, we have an older FMC (loved that), a legendary swordsman, who is hired for one last contract after her previous client unexpectedly retires. Given a mission to dig up dirt on a to be board member, this last contract quickly becomes more complicated than Isako thought it would be.

I loved the main character here. It’s a breath of fresh air to have an older FMC, and even then, the character growth and development throughout the novel was very well written. The first half is a bit slower paced, following Isako unraveling the mystery her mission brought up, while the second half were privy to flashbacks of a different character to explain everything. I wasn’t expecting that format and pleasantly surprised! The ended made me a little teary eyed, which again, was not expecting!

This is definitely a slower paced mystery with action sprinkled in here and there, after all, our FMC is a corporate samurai, but overall, highly recommend!

vibes - ❄️🗡️🩸🤫🪦🦾
genres - scifi, dystopian, mystery

Thank you @orbitbooks_us @netgalley for the copy!
