2016 was hard. Two months after this photo, I was diagnosed with a mood disorder that came out of nowhere.
.
March 2016 and the rest of the year, I was no longer myself. I was a shell of the joyful, confident, strong girl I used to know. I struggled with debilitating depression. I faced suicidal thoughts. I wept and wept and prayed and prayed, but I was still the girl with the mental illness.
.
Now it’s 10 years later. And I’m so glad that the girl in 2016 didn’t give up, didn’t give into the devastation and destruction that wreaked havoc on her mind & heart. On her dreams & goals. On her plans & promises.
.
Here we are today. In 2026. And I’m so thankful to be the woman I am!! The woman who clawed her way out of depression, who found the most amazing community & truly leaned in, who takes her meds every. friggin’. day. and never misses therapy. I’m filled with more joy, confidence, and strength than ever. I grow more into the woman I want to become each & every day.

It’s 2026. And while the world is bleak and harsh and cruel, while there is so much suffering and strife at this very moment, we’ll make it through. 10, 20, 30 years from now — we will look back with pride and joy of a job well done, of our bravery and resilience and all around badassery. Outdoor Dallas girlies assemble! 🧗‍♀️🏕️

This Dallas social org is all about the outdoors, with no gatekeeping, no pressure, and no experience required.

@gooutside_girlies launched in March 2024 to make nature more fun and accessible for women, including trans women and nonbinary people. Whether you’re a first-timer or seasoned adventurer, their events are open to anyone who identifies as female. No experience needed.

So far, they’ve hosted a picnic and plant swap, gone outdoor climbing, and in July, they’ll hit Lake Ray Hubbard for kayaking and paddleboarding. Monthly outings are posted on Instagram.

It’s World Mental Health Day & I’ve lived with diagnosed bipolar disorder for a decade.
.
I’ve had big wins & refining losses; experienced the highest of highs & lowest of lows; bravely battled suicidal depression & ideation, intrusive thoughts, and manic episodes. I’ve felt like leaving this side of heaven and also like the luckiest girl in the world. Here are only three key lessons from 10 years of mental illness >>
.
It’s possible to suffer well: knowing & advocating your needs; asking for help or especially surrounding yourself with people who help without asking.
.
Be kind to your mind: go to therapy and do hard work and ugly cry. Take your meds!!!! I f*cking mean it.
.
Mental health is as important as physical health. You can’t move your body without nourishing your mind. Without checking in on your sleep, mood, & energy.
.
If you suffer from mental illness, know you’re not alone. & If you’re luck not to, I guarantee you love someone who does. Whichever and whoever you are, you are seen. You are known. You are loved. by @wordsbymae

Dear Jack. I love you & I miss you already. You taught me so much about bravery & resilience, kindness and loyalty. You were so brave, such a fighter even until your last breath. And your big bug eyes & gentle soul never met a stranger.

You loved deep & wide. Any person or pup you met! You loved your toy Chicky, Champ your dog cousin, & coffee dates. You loved bedtime snuggles & morning pets. But of all the things, you loved me the very most. The purest, sweetest gift I could ever receive.

Happy Birthday Eve to meeee!! 🎂🎉
.
31 was a year of change and growth and stretching. I accomplished hard things. I made mistakes. I did things scared. I loved & lost & loved again. ✨ I laughed a lot & cried a little.
.
31 was a year I’ll never forget. I became a gym member-only again (instead of staff), a grad student, & a roommate. I continued to be a badass single dog mom & a naive, hopeful plant mom. 🌱 I made new friends & kept the old.
.
Here comes 32. And after so much evolution & newness packed into 365 days, I’m ready to be steady, settled, slow. I’m ready lean in & learn & love some more. ❤️‍🩹
