A joint statement from the organisers @workersmakepossible and @sgclimaterally:

"We are incredibly energised by the passionate show of support. This was a landmark rally where climate and labour sectors linked arms in the fight against capitalism’s brutal assaults on workers and the environment. More than 1500 protestors assembled for a genuine, people’s Labour Day rally, recognising the urgency of taking action — many of them signing up to join grassroots organisations. This turnout was despite the humble resources that organisers had and the many barriers we faced in getting the word out about the rally, given the extreme limits on our freedom of expression and assembly in Singapore. Moreover, the government denies migrant workers, who make up a big part of the workforce in Singapore, the right to take part in such assemblies.

It is undeniable that the mass movement for ecosocialism is growing in Singapore. We call on the workers of Singapore to unite and fight for the future we deserve, no matter what sector you are in — and we promise to fight with you."

Here's what's in store at Unlearning the Death Penalty: Ending the War on the Poor on 10th October, 3-5pm.

The speakers will unpack how the death penalty and other cruel punishments serve as a distraction from truly addressing social concerns like poverty, violence against women, and harmful drug use, and how we can *actually* build a safer, more equal society. We will end the event with a candlelight vigil honouring the lives lost to the gallows since 2020, and pay tribute to the prisoners who've fought for truth and justice from behind bars. Swipe through for the full lineup and programme.

Join 200 others in our grief, rage and protest against state violence.

Date: Saturday, 10th October
Time: 3-5pm
Venue: Redrum @ Filmhouse, Golden Mile Tower, 6001 Beach Rd

The AI bubble looms large. And with the sheer amount of investments that GIC and Temasek have made AND plan to make in the future, the bursting of this bubble could have serious ramifications on our economy and livelihoods. taken in Singapore / Singapura / 新加坡 / சிங்கப்பூர் by @workersmakepossible

For refusing to compromise her principles or capitulate to what she believed was an unjust directive from the state, Koki (@learningfromthemargins) will be going on trial from 7-9 October as the first person to ever defy a POFMA order.

A lot has happened since she was first served a Correction Direction in October 2024— scroll through for the recap.

This trial should matter to all of us. POFMA has serious implications for our freedom of information and expression.

Koki's trial runs from 7-9 October, 9:30am-5pm daily, at State Court 24A. We hope to see you there!

The police are charging multiple activists for lighting candles to honour people hanged by the state, taking a photo outside court, and flying kites to honour martyred Palestinians.

In the days to come, we expect mainstream media to attempt to assassinate the characters of these activists as "anti-Singapore". You deserve the truth. Hear from the activists themselves about their charges and what motivated them, despite knowing the risks activists face in Singapore.

If you are outraged by this and want to show up in solidarity, join us tomorrow at 10am, State Courts to attend the trial of 7 activists.

Then, come down to World Day Against The Death Penalty on 10 Oct, 3pm-5pm at Filmhouse for a day of reflection and learning.

Get your tickets at the link in bio.

Koki ( @learningfromthemargins ) from the Transformative Justice Collective ( @transformjustice.sg ) interviews Kumarr ( @kumarrnotcow ), a labour organiser from Workers Make Possible ( @workersmakepossible ) who was charged for participating in an anti-death penalty vigil. He explains why the death penalty is also a labour issue.

The majority of those who are facing similar charges as Kumarr's, in relation to the photo and the vigils, will have their first court hearing on 28 September at 10am, State Courts 4B. Join us in solidarity on that day to support them! ✊✊

And if you are shocked, enraged, or troubled in the least by this, join us at World Day Against the Death Penalty on 10 October, at 3pm, at Filmhouse, where we hold an indoor vigil to remember all the people we have lost to the gallows, and protest against the prosecution of mourning.
