How can we turn today’s frustration and energy into long-term power? And what can the fight for DC’s autonomy and statehood teach us about the future of American democracy?

We are excited to announce our expert panel, “Where Do We Go From Here? DC and the Future of American Democracy,” as part of the lineup of organizing workshops you’ll be able to attend at the DC Community Organizing Festival. Get your free tickets using the link in our bio.

Join DC organizers Markus Batchelor, Makia Green, and Jacqueline Johnson for a conversation about the future of DC, the fight for self-determination and statehood, and the role local organizing can play in building a more democratic future. Swipe through to meet them, and get ready to learn from them this Saturday, September 26.

Join us this weekend to enjoy soul food and delicious arepas, spend the afternoon meeting and connecting with 30 local organizations working on a variety of social justice issues in the District, enjoy live music including a drumline performace and more. Everything is free, but registration is required, so get your tickets now! by @workitkiki

Who we win with was up to the room.

Said this at yesterday’s Future of DC panel. Early in the Janeese Mayoral Primary campaign I told 300 volunteers I was confident we’d win the primary. The ending 2,000 signups and 200,000 doors was made possible by the community, cultural and coalition building done by our volunteers and supporters. The question was who we win with, and whether our coalition would outlast Election Day for durable political power.

More reels from this panel coming. 🎤 by @workitkiki

Uh oh I lost the award. But to be a finalist is a big deal for me. To be recognized because so many in my community nominated me is a win and I’m overjoyed for the winner. It is so well deserved. The only soothing I need right now is these knees from jumping so much on the red carpet. Ha! Love yall where should I jump next? taken in Conrad Washington DC by @workitkiki
