Some photos from our Oct 4 work party, thanks Valerie, Sue, Joanne, Megan, Leah and Tanya for lending a hand, sharing ideas, and restoring order to our shed, makong it much easier to access materials for workshops and upcycling projects. We all found a few treasures for our own projects as well.

We are also very pleased that our community partners at Glebe Road United Church @gleberoadunited have OFFICIALLY welcomed us in to their fold, board approved and everything, we even got a write up in the Sunday flyer. We appreciate their generousity and faith in us as a rag tag group of eco-minded artists.

So along with the use of the shed, we can hold our Spring Swap as a joint project (no seperate insurance) and can use space in the chuch community rooms for monthly sewing circles/community building, to start soon (stay tuned)

Swipe through to see some of our finds, some ideas for scraps, and the flyer, along with the tidy shed, ready for winter care and repair. The last photo is just of the beautiful sky and fall colours. taken in Midtown, Toronto by @works.in.progress.to

The B team- haha- in our double event day as a collective... we were pleased to be invited to be part of the inaugeral #artsinthepark event organized with our community partners @appletree_to who usually do a farmers market plus the ring in spring event in May.

The festival was the brainchild of Lesley @dailyapple_to and Chris @chris.trussell and they invited local artists and performers to take part, including Chris himself and Sharon from much loved children's music group @sharonloisbram who played to a HUGE crowd for the last hour.

We had a great day, between fellow @works.in.progress.to artist @joannepereira and her @futuring_with_nature booth and Juli and kids at the @drinkthepopshoppe booth

We brought upcycled wares from a few @works.in.progress.to artists and friends @weirdfictions @mkmakesthings @seeing.things.clearly @coolartbadhair beaded earrings from Ursa some books from local authors @puneeta.author and @valleyofthebirdtail and Tanya @seeing.things.clearly did 10 minite portraits.

It was a great opportunity to meet both artists and eco -minded people at this local event. This is part of our #summerofcareshareandrepair2026 project, bringing eco connections to this community art event.

This project is supported by a neighbourhood climate action grant from @livegreento and the City of Toronto.

It was good to see our councillor @joshmatlow and Chriselle who has done a great just as trustee through the @waterfrontneighbourhoodcentre connecting us with communities across the city. taken in June Rowlands Park by @works.in.progress.to

We were in two teams on Saturday, at two eco/art events. This one was the Seaton Village Eco fair. We met our hosts at the @waterfrontncto last fall, and the organizer (Liz from Seaton Village Green Neighbours) invited us activate a kids crafts area. We made a banner from upcycled (rescued) blackout nlinds and out door fabric which would have other wise e ded up in land fill.

Exhuberant artists of all ages joined Amy, Megan @mkwmakesthings and Leslie @lsolomoniannd in foraging for marks and foliage to make multicoliur marks on the banner. The material and inspiration came from Joanne @joannepereira and was prepped by @seeing.things.clearly

The reusable banner can be used now by the Seaton Village Green Neighbours group for future events. It was completed in two hours so it could be used by thr speakers at the end of the park events, before the crowd headed off for its heat pump and solar energy crawl through the neighbourhood.

Other participants @karmacooptoronto @cleanindoorairto @torontonaturestewards @tohomeenergy @chavetacoffee

We got an honorarium for this one, I believe from a @livegreento grant, like us. taken in Seaton Village by @works.in.progress.to

Sunday collective art making with our pals @humberriverpals

Volunteers meet once a month to clean up the Humber River, and each time the organizers bring in a treat for the team, and this time it was making an upcycled textile sign with us (@works.in.progress.to )

We were happy to see previous bunting projects in use! This time we were inspired by @joannepereira to make a sign using a specific waste textile she has been playing with: vinyl blinds.
We also rented some of her hand carved stamps for the day.

Artists @seeing.things.clearly and @leahnsanchezdesigns were on site helping decorate the blank canvas with prints reflecting the plants and animals onsite AND volunteers took impressions/casts of some of the items they found in cleanup... if you swipe through you can see closeups of some of the stamps we rented from Joanne, imprints of toys, tools, bottlecaps and leaves. And of course the final sign, with cutout fabric letters.

All photos from Tanya @seeing.things.clearly except a couple we grabbed from @humberriverpals to show the beautiful Humber River next to our workspace (too many closeups)! Such a gorgeous place and event. Part of our summer of Share, Care and repair 2026 #summerofsharecareandrepair2026 taken in Weston Lions Park by @works.in.progress.to

Our second outdoor work party of the summer was a real joy, we met before the day reached it's peak 40+C and worked in shade amongst the pollinators. Eco printing is great because it is safe for the soil, skin and beings.

@works.in.progress.to artist and co-founder @leahnsanchezdesigns is leading a workshop on August 2 with @multintto sharing her hand on knowledge and research into eco printing and flower pounding, we did a run through of the eco printing with leaves and flowers harvested nearby, with fabric that Leah has prepped by scouring, simmering with tannins, alum mordant and used iron soaked "iron blankets" to affect the outcome.

Try it yourself! There are still a few tickets left for the August 2 workshop, check out rhe @multintto website for details.

We are always looking for fun ways to transform and reuse textiles. We plan some more pick up work parties over the summer to share knowledge, skills and tech.

Thanks @leahnsanchezdesigns @seeing.things.clearly @ellebee_ellebee and @joannepereira (new WiP artist) taken in Midtown, Toronto by @works.in.progress.to

Our first summer work party! Party.of two but still, very fun to experiment.

We.were @joannepereira and @seeing.things.clearly and we played around with a material Joanne rescued in her last move vinyl blinds. We may use these for a communal art project with @humberriverpals

We met up in yard by our shed and did some.experimenting, had a pick up meeting with @rev_cyn about future sewing circle plans in the community room at @gleberoadunited (stay tuned) and met a community member who dropped by after seeing our newsletter.

Swipe through to see some community work by these two artists in June Rowlands park: Joanne manages the community garden and worked with community to paint the little green shed, and Tanya created the drawings for the monarch butterfly signs in the communuty garden with Davisville school many years ago.
