As the trade body for worktop fabricators, we are working hard to ensure that better health and safety always comes before profit. This is especially important as we face our biggest challenge yet – silicosis.

This week, our operations officer Nigel Fletcher is in Brussels at the European Network for Silica (NEPSI) conference which was formed by the Employee and Employer European sectoral associations who have signed the Agreement on Workers’ Health Protection Through the Good Handling and Use of Crystalline Silica and Products Containing it. We are delighted to have a seat at that table and look forward to reporting back on it.

We are very excited to announce an autumn/winter programme of events that seek to inform and engage fabricators and KBB professionals. As you'd expect, much of this conversation focuses on improving health and safety.

We are kicking off this Friday at 12pm with a webinar session on Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV), covering system design and commissioning. This is a joint webinar with British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS)

BOHS will present this based on impartial scientific and technical advice drawn from international research and HSE findings from recent research projects. It will be free to access live and on-demand via YouTube.

The dust has settled. The work begins.

The HSE's updated guidance on respirable crystalline silica (RCS) marks a defining moment for our industry.

For the Worktop Fabricators Federation, this isn't the end of a conversation—it's the beginning of a safer future.

Over the past two years, we've worked alongside the HSE, scientists, medical experts and our members to help shape the evidence behind these important changes. From opening workshops for research to supporting the launch of the new guidance, we're proud to have played our part.

Now our focus is simple:

✔️ Don't dry cut.
✔️ Don't breathe it in.
✔️ Don't take it home.

We're also proud to be launching the WFF Accreditation Quality Mark, helping identify fabricators committed to the highest standards of health, safety and best practice.

As Nigel Fletcher of WFF says:

"Every major advance in safety has faced resistance. Seatbelts did. The smoking ban did. Today, both are recognised as changes that saved lives. We believe the stone fabrication industry has reached a similar moment. Together, we can create safer workshops, healthier workers and a stronger future for everyone."

This is just the beginning.

Compliance is becoming more complex. It doesn’t have to become more difficult.

Following our event, we wanted to start by thanking @3m for inviting us and our customers to their Innovation Centre in Bracknell. The event provided a useful insight into the new regulations, where attendees were offered the unique opportunity to have a live Q&A panel with the @hsegovuk
They were also able to hear and speak to the @worktopfabricatorsfederation & @stonefederation , as well as having the opportunity to have a thorough presentation on APF, fit testing and try on various PPE directly with the technical specialists at 3M.

We were delighted to hear from Damien Eaves of the British Occupational Hygiene Society as we continue to work towards raising standards across the fabrication industry.

Great to meet up with Nigel Fletcher of the @worktopfabricatorsfederation today. We talked in depth about digital templating and gave him a demo of the @leicageosystemsag iCS50 and vPen. We had to show him the @donatonigroup WaterJet and chat through the @tagliosoftwarehouse SV 4022 vertical scanner too. Thanks for your time Nigel and looking forward to supporting the WFF in 2026.
