We are celebrating 10 YEARS OF WORLD AFRO DAY®

📍 Coal Drops Yard, King's Cross, London

Our official World Afro Day® events are listed on our website and take place from 15th to 17th September.

A street takeover of 3 days of events, day and night kicking off with events today from 10am:

- Afro After School Club
- Flowers and FROS workshop
- WAD Wondermarket popup
- Community Catwalk shows at 1pm and 6pm
- Live radio show takeover
- Evening event Tuesday 15th from 7pm until 10pm
+ Celebrity guest appearances and more

I’m back from producing the 10th World Afro Day! Just afterwards I went to an event @seo_ldn looking at hair in the workplace and they were surprised because 38% young people mentioned hair unprompted as important for belonging at work. I believe that Gen Z wanting their hair to be accepted as a generation means that they might be able to spearhead change faster than previous generations. Yesterday brought a lot of healing to my inner child. I didn’t grow up with the best relationship with my natural hair, so being in a space that was designed to celebrate Afro hair was so wholesome. @Frobelles does such an amazing job of representing our hair so beautifully and these kids had a time! @worldafroday @frobelles @blackthingsuk

When I was 11 my head teacher kept me back at the end of the day and told me my hair was too long.

On Tuesday I put nine people on a runway in King's Cross and had them talk about theirs.

Rooted's first ever catwalk, at World Afro Day's 10th anniversary. Nine walkers in their own hair, six stylists, and every single one of them stood at the end of the runway and spoke for a minute about what their hair means to them before they walked.

That was the part that got me. Some of the audience were properly moved.

Then we opened the runway up and anyone who wanted to walk, walked.

Still haven't come down from it.
