Today marked a truly epic end to my 40th birthday expedition of bikepacking Scotland. We had a chance to jump on a small single prop fixed wing aircraft and view the Wildcat and the Highland 550 Trail from the sky. @highlandaviationltd was so gracious for letting me geek out about gravel roads and flying…and we got to experience free-fall twice mid flight! Love love love that zero G feeling. As a paraglider, flying brings me so much joy and it has been a dream of mine to fly a small aircraft. Today was that day. Feeling very lucky to have the opportunities life has presented. I do not take any of this for granted. by @worldsbetweenlines

This shot was taken at the start of a section on the Wildcat route, which turned into one of the hardest days of bikepacking in recent memory. From Inverie to Loch Quoich was a slooooog. Torrential rain, bogs, waterfall crossings, high winds, and a deep river crossing filled up my type-2 fun canteen! I suppose I enjoyed not knowing what the trail had in store for us in the miles ahead. Kept us focused on the present moment and beauty surrounding us; one step, one push, one pedal at a time.

Whew-weeee! That was a doozy of a day! We covered some of the most breathtaking miles I’ve biked to date. The road vistas were absolutely magical. The hike-a-bike up steep hiking trails were very manageable. The hike-a-bike sections back down the mountain proved to be something else entirely, but as with anything in life, one step forward is a step forward, and “this too shall pass” is a motto that motivates forward progress. #bikepacking #bikepackscotland by @worldsbetweenlines

In March of 2009 I cycled 4,200 miles across the States. At the time I had little to no direction in life, but I always carried with me an adventurous curiosity which I leaned into heavily. I recall vividly telling myself two things: the road will take care of you; cycling will define your life. Both have been true more than I could have imagined. Now I find myself in a country I’ve always longed to visit, on a bike, with a badass partner. This ride feels different. A culmination of a decade of hard work, both career wise but more importantly hard work on myself. I never want to grow up, I’ll forever be that kid looking at the horizon saying to myself, “I wonder what I’ll see from that spot?”

What does it all mean? Maybe nothing really. Just presently living day by day, trying to be the best version of myself. So perhaps in the end, it doesn’t really have to have meaning, as long as you love it. #bikepacking by @worldsbetweenlines

Scotland has always pulled at my heart. The epic vistas and technical gravel roads fading off into the distance is magical to view on screens, but to actually be here experiencing this place is beyond words. The cherry on top, I get to be here and experience all this with my adventure partner 🤘
