Low range transfercase is officially installed in the Q7, with early style diff swap too.
Going from a 3.3 - 3.7 ratio

The test fit I did of the case a couple months ago led me to believe this was going to be a simple swap and really it was ( controller still has to be wired in)

There’s a couple different length transfer cases and the one from the Toaureg tdi was the correct length for the 8 speed trans. I was able to use the oem Touareg front prop shaft.

No one local wanted to modify the rear prop shaft so a custom one piece happened. With big 1350 u joints it’s gonna take all that I can throw at it.

Driveshaft Adapters
110mm bolt circle 3 finger on the trans, this was from @gforce_1320 racing for the ctsv - @to.rage for finding this one

86mm bolts circle diameter at the rear diff was from @seemslegitgarage for the e46 diff. (Required machine the back flat)

Also refreshed the passenger fuel tank skid plate as it was kinda pretty beat up. So that’s had thicker runners added and more holes for draining dirt. taken in Canada by @wrenchparty

Beyond excited to finally have this adventure under our belt.

7,500km’s in 13days. Ended up getting trapt above the Arctic circle for 3 days due to a bridge closure from a semi making contact with the bridge.

We had so many events happen and the ups and downs felt like a movie. Have a ton of photos to go through to share this journey. For now here’s the end of the road for this journey at least.

Big views around here.
We wanted to camp up here, but the wind was forecasted at over 35km/h and when we were up here the day before… it was not tent weather.

You know we love a good road trip and with all that driving comes many pit stops. With that we’ve joined the @journie_ca rewards crew.

Over the next couple months there they will be having specific challenges to participate in, and it’s always road trip season over here.
So we can’t wait to get going.

The drive was definitely worth it.
And for just swapping the full drivetrain a couple weeks before the q7 performed flawlessly. Ratio change was much nicer for driving. It didn’t have to double downshift every hill.
I do think it’s about 10% slow now on the speedo which is an easy to account for. 2k rpm is about 120km/h. So cruising is a bit slower, as the rpm does start to creep up quickly. But averaged 13-14L/100km which is about 18mpg. Which gained us just over 150km’s a tank. taken in Cariboo Chilcotin Coast by @wrenchparty

Road trip to Calgary to check the tdi still gets good fuel mileage. 1,000km’s on 1 tank for a stg 2 is pretty good. taken in Calgary, Alberta by @wrenchparty

Kept hitting the toe arm mounts so I chopped them off. New rear subframe got plated and chopped before going on. @to.rage had the idea of just chopping them down so this was my rendition of that. Hoping these hold up better than stock, but there’s only one way to tell.

Havn’t been out much lately, but Q7 has been getting some attention. Replaced the rear subframe and finally put in the full @eurowise_performance control arm lineup. Rear subframe bushings looked decent so filled them with polyurethane.

I’ll have another post on details about the plated subframe. Still got some more work to do on the Q7

All this smoke has had us not going out right now. Not fair to a kid to spend a whole weekend outside breathing that stuff in.

So of course I’m taking advantage of this and getting the projects list on the Q7 crossed off. Just waiting on another part before we can get into the really good stuff
