Last night was the first in a new series of monthly full moon hikes I helped organize with Arc’teryx Los Angeles 🌝

We couldn’t have asked for a more special night to start. Such a wonderful group of people came out to hike together, make new friends, take in the views, and moon gaze as the lunar eclipse unfolded above us.

We ended the night with a picnic under a 97% eclipsed moon, eating delicious bao—which felt like a pretty perfect way to kick off the series.

I went to Marseille, France to hang with two of my best friends, do fun things, and apparently shoot on every format camera imaginable—iPhone, film, drone, and action cam.

When I’m traveling, there’s always a camera in my hand (or 5). Then when I’m back home editing, there’s absolutely no cohesive style or story to be found—just a frustrating mismatch of formats, styles, white balance, and grain.

I’m embracing the chaotic, indecisive maximalist that I am, and trying to share more of what I do & shoot, whether it’s cohesive or not 🤪 by @wrenees

June in Bali.

In early May, my calendar was suddenly wide open, so I booked a last-minute trip to Bali to deepen my freediving practice.

That “week or two” turned into eight.

Two months of slowing down. Unintentionally but effectively deprogramming my busy, anxious brain that always feels like it should be doing more.

Learning to simply be. Just one of many living beings here, now, today… enjoying this beautiful life. by @wrenees

Pool (dynamic) freediving is basically subjecting yourself to complete physical misery—until you either decide you’ve had enough—or you black out 🤣 The 100s are new territory for me, and I’m excited to see how much further I can punish myself.

But really, this sport is incredible. I love proving to my self-doubting brain that I can trust myself, and do very hard things.

I had one goal when I got to Bali: freedive. But every day in the water, I surfaced to the sight of Agung volcano. Before long, another goal emerged—summit Bali’s most sacred mountain, and tallest peak.

The hike started at 12:30am, and over the next five hours we climbed just 3 miles. Those short but very steep 5km, under a full moon, were some of the most memorable steps I’ve ever hiked. The trail was busy with local villagers of all ages making the trek to the crater for one of their ritual offering ceremonies.

We watched the sun rise over the ocean from 3,142 meters (10,308 feet), with 360° views across Bali and the neighboring islands of Lombok and Nusa Penida.

I only planned to stay a couple of weeks, but I keep finding more reasons to love Bali—and to stay a little longer. Thank you @widya_antary33 for guiding us on this epic trail, keeping us fed and in good spirits! by @wrenees

“Escaped the city for a couple days to Joshua Tree with my sister and our herd of Aussies. 4-wheeling, cooking ridiculously good meals, and camping out of a fully equipped @dometic rig. Everything we needed was already dialed. We just had to grab the dogs and go. “

Freediving under a frozen lake in Finland.

Somehow all of my greatest joys, biggest fears, and life experiences aligned to bring me here.

Pushing my limits in the strangest way, and somehow loving every second of it.

One of the most surreal and empowering experiences I’ve ever had.

While life at home has felt heavy lately, I’m grateful for the privilege of travel—and for moments that remind me how kind and beautiful this world still is.

On our last day in Dominica, we were incredibly lucky to encounter a massive pod of sperm whales—dozens upon dozens—and to swim and dive alongside them.
