Wrexham University recently welcomed students, alumni, criminal justice professionals and further education learners for a special lecture from Vice-Chancellor Professor Joe Yates on the theme of Youth Criminalisation.

The event, hosted by the Criminal Justice department, brought together current students, graduates, practitioners and sector leaders, creating a unique opportunity for learning, networking and professional discussion. The audience also included students from Grŵp Llandrillo Menai's Rhyl College, who attended as part of a university taster experience designed to provide insight into higher education and future career opportunities.

Opening the event, Dr Sarah Dubberley, Principal lead for the Criminal Justice Department welcomed guests and highlighted the significance of bringing together individuals at different stages of their educational and professional journeys.

"One of the strengths of Wrexham University is our ability to connect people through shared learning and ambition. It is wonderful to welcome current students, alumni, practitioners, industry professionals and future university students into the same space. Together they represent the future of our professions and communities, and events such as this demonstrate the transformative power of education.

"It was particularly pleasing to welcome students from Rhyl College alongside our own students, alumni and professional partners. Providing opportunities for future learners to experience university-level discussion and engage with sector experts is central to our mission. The atmosphere throughout the evening reflected the ambition, inclusivity and community spirit that underpin everything we do at Wrexham University." We’re delighted to have secured funding to explore the future of William Aston Hall at Wrexham University.

The University has received support from the Arts Council of Wales and Welsh Government through the Arts Capital Investment Fund to undertake a RIBA feasibility study.

The study will look at how the Hall can be protected, improved and strengthened as both a university building and a working cultural venue, including accessibility, seating, acoustics, stage and backstage facilities, sustainability and future use.

💬 communication isn't just about talking!

Our year 1 ODP students recently explored communication and communication barriers through a series of simulation activities, including theatre-based scenarios, non-verbal communication challenges, and virtual patient interactions.

The experience helped our students develop confidence, teamwork, and patient-centred communication skills essential for perioperative practice.

✨️Learning by doing; preparing for practice ✨️

💬 Nid yw cyfathrebu yn ymwneud â siarad yn unig.
Yn ddiweddar, bu myfyrwyr blwyddyn gyntaf Ymarferwyr Adran Lawdriniaethau (ODP) yn archwilio cyfathrebu a'r rhwystrau i gyfathrebu drwy gyfres o weithgareddau efelychu trochi, gan gynnwys senarios yn seiliedig ar y theatr lawdriniaeth, heriau cyfathrebu di-eiriau, a rhyngweithio â chleifion rhithwir.

Helpodd y profiad y myfyrwyr i ddatblygu hyder, gwaith tîm a sgiliau cyfathrebu sy’n canolbwyntio ar y claf, sydd yn hanfodol ar gyfer ymarfer periweithredol.

✨ Dysgu drwy wneud. Paratoi ar gyfer ymarfer.✨️

On Wednesday this week, more than 200 young people from schools and colleges across North Wales joined us for a careers event delivered through the North Wales Tertiary Alliance (NWTA).

The event gave students the chance to explore careers across Engineering and Manufacturing, and Creative and Digital, through workshops led by employers, industry partners and education providers.

Students could try out new ideas, hear from people working in different industries and find out more about the careers available across North Wales. Sessions included 3D prosthetic design, Airbus careers, gaming, television production and immersive technologies.

Wrexham University was joined by Coleg Cambria, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai and Bangor University, alongside employers and industry partners from across the region.

It was a great opportunity for young people to learn more about different career paths and start thinking about where their own interests could take them.

Want to explore your own options for the future? Join us for Pathways to Success at Venue Cymru, Llandudno, on Saturday, October 17. The free event brings together employers and education providers, with opportunities to explore careers, courses, apprenticeships and training.
