I am a teacher. One part courtroom jester. One part dunce. One part dad and one part mom. I am the voice of books, and the ears of reason.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The house is open. A storm approaches. Hushed voices, a wall hoisted and nailed in place by the hammering of ironic minds. The lights change, purple-blue then fade, whereas lights everywhere else are on or off, this light scoffs, and jeers with bright golden cheers and burgundy spheres and dark fabric frames into prison for escaping prism. Blackout. Solitary. Spotlit commentary. Fog spills from the wings. So dark it stings. So rich it stinks. Brought to the brink to be told to hold in places.
Three hundred years. Three weeks of rehearsals. Time untouched by memory and the clocks that record such time. There is only one load bearing wall, it clutches no joist, cradles no timber, separates no room from another. A body stuck in a state of autopsy, every story in the building can be seen from any seat. Where truth and fiction meet there is a friction and there is a heat, and lights glow blue to cool it down, and it is soothed by subtle sound. The doors unlocked. The house could not be more open. We have tied all the keys to kite strings. Watch us fish for lightning. by @writeractorfarmer

It can’t be explained, or described, but in the absence of words, I’m able to glimpse the outline of what I’ll never understand. First, a feeling, a powerful curiosity, a firework or a gunshot, thunderstorm or a transformer going, as if there’s a difference. Different. New York. Quick. Full frontal fearlessness in the face of family, travel, life, the whole audience. I think we fell in love, tried to climb out and fell in again and now are stuck where we thought it would sting but it stopped. Love is a bed of coals you won’t have in winter’s cold if you forsake it in the heat of summer, love is a gravity with ecosystems caught in its orbit, the center space between two orbs, yes counter, but beside the word balance, broken only by a hyphen. I have tried, and have failed, and I have never failed, because of her.

You first. You only. You Ashley. You feline-eyed curiosity.

You are no lighthouse, but when I first saw you, I admit, according to all the compasses and maps, I was far out at sea, nowhere near shore, when a light that shines as bright on any given night as it does the one it saves a life, a light that does not dim, does not flicker, has no shutter, no shade, no shame. Hurdling at its speed and spinning for her own delight, and I could have sworn she was looking for me. Signaling. But no. I’m just one of the lucky few passing through the horizon she’s locked eyes on. Hers, and hers alone. We lucky few, found in her view.

This afternoon's performance is the final chance to see this rendition of The Crucible, sad to say goodbye to this show, but looking forward to setting down this character for a while. This company is amazing, one of the most professional groups I've ever worked with, and our version of this classic piece of literature is canon-worthy. Catch it today at the Joy Theatre at 3pm, and help support us telling more stories like this in Kings Mountain forever. #JohnProctor #TheCrucible #ArthurMiller #localtheatre #kingsmountainnc #KMLT #actor

Just a little fireside chat between John and Elizabeth. Our final matinee of the weekend begins at 3pm, and today we are filming this performance for educational purposes, so if you'd like your gasps, laughter and applause to be immortalized in film, come see The Crucible today! See you in Salem. #ElizabethProctor
