What an amazing visit with Slater Elementary @slater_gators! We talked about mariachi music and some of the instruments you might see in a mariachi band, we learned about the first known female mariachi, we practiced our gritos (see the video), and we read MAMIACHI AND ME: MY MAMI'S MARIACHI BAND by @_dakota_gutierrez_, @msmirelle, and me! So much gratitude to @bookstokidsco and Denise Cushing for their work to make this possible!

It's almost Día de Muertos--my favorite holiday of the year! 🏵🧡🦋🧡🏵 And this year, there's a new reason to celebrate! A TANTA WAWA FOR ABUELITO by @safajarwrites and @dudaoliva.art takes us on an Andean journey through town to the cemetery to celebrate and remember Abuelito. Tortolito misses Abuelito so much, but he chooses the best tanta wawa--one the most sprinkles--to honor him. A perfect addition to homes, schools, and libraries!

Día de Muertos is coming soon, and THE OFRENDA THAT WE BUILT by @_art_by_shai_, @gabbyzapata, and me will be featured in some upcoming celebrations!

Join me on Saturday, October 24 at 3:00 for a special storytime during Cherry Hills Village's Día de Muertos Celebration!

And on Sunday, November 1 at 2:30, the @coloradosymphony's Día de Muertos family celebration will feature THE OFRENDA THAT WE BUILT on stage as the talented @Ariadragon narrates and actors build the ofrenda!

What a wonderful whirlwind of a weekend (say that 5 times fast)! I'm so grateful to have been on a panel with @biancaschulzewriter, @laurenkerstein, and @carmelalavignacoyleauthor, to have been able to meet and learn from Kate DiCamillo and @pacylin, and to see and connect with so many amazing friends. Thanks to the RMC-SCBWI faculty and volunteers for such a special conference! by @writerjolene

The @coloradoschoolcounselors conference this year was wonderful! It was an honor to present with @biancaschulzewriter, @laurenkerstein, and @jessica_speer_author and to see friends and make new friends there!

I also spotted @carmelalavignacoyleauthor's and @schaubwrites's books at @nextpagebookstore in Frisco and saw some beautiful sights along the way. by @writerjolene
