Wandering in NYC wearing my @bklyncbeanlitfest t-shirt - “Yuh but a book today?” got me more than the usual inquiries of “Where are you from?” to which I gave my standard response, “I live in Virginia.” Maybe it’s New York, but no one had any follow up questions 😂. by @writewithcarol

I’m excited to have “Transformations” featured in the “Girl in Trouble” Substack. @girlintroublestories . “Transformations” is one of the stories in my forthcoming collection A Good Haunting and the “girl in trouble” in this story gets a little push from an infamous mythical creature of African and Caribbean lore. Check out the post, read other stories on the Girl in Trouble Substack and make sure to subscribe.

@storyknife_writers_retreat, I filled my camera reel with photos of the magnificent view from my cabin window. I wanted to capture every shade of blue, the array of oranges, each brush of white; to record the hues, some I swear I’ve never experienced before.
Every photo failed.
Maybe the limitations of my camera phone? Perhaps it would be impossible to recreate that view without paint, canvas, and talent.
Eventually I put the camera down and focused on every detail before me, hoping to imprint the scenes onto my mind. Perhaps that will be enough to sustain the impact these vast Alaskan skies had on my world.
(Mama moose insisted on a cameo!)
