Can't wait to share more from the super fun engagement shoot Em and I did with @piperbarneycreative. Here's a little taste... Hope you don't go into shock from too much sugar. Much love, Dave. taken in Fontainebleau State Park by @writtenbydave

Excited to be joining New Marigny Theatre as an Artist-in Residence playwright for 2026-27! Stay tuned for more as I develop my play for production! Very excited to get to know/collaborate with a talented, eclectic group of artists and have this wonderful converted space to pour my creative ideas and energy into in this amazing city of New Orleans! I am overflowing with gratitude. taken in New Marigny Theatre at Church Of Arts & Sciences by @writtenbydave

Had a fantastic time at STAAR Theatre's inaugural New One Act Play Contest staged reading for finalists in Pulaski, Tennessee. Emily and I made a fun road trip out of it—we stayed in a beautiful little guest house on a farm about ten minutes out of town and enjoyed a firefly lit evening, a walk through a cemetery populated with many interesting characters from Civil War times, and a peaceful morning coffee on the back deck. Then we enjoyed a day of play readings with feedback from the judges and Q&A with the other playwrights, and my play was read last by some very talented actors who gave me all the feels. I enjoyed discussing my play with the judges and audience afterward, made some new friends, and was super excited to be announced as a winner and one of three plays they will produce and put on stage next year. A great weekend all around, and made even better by the fact I had @emorethanthat by my side to enjoy it with me! taken in Pulaski, Tennessee by @writtenbydave

Got some fun news... my novel "White Fawn" is a finalist in the 2025-2026 William Faulkner – William Wisdom Creative Writing Competition! Pretty excited that out of 129 entries in my category, the readers/judges enjoyed it enough to include it on the list! Now... anyone know an agent looking for a literary historical coming-of-age novel with folkloric elements?

Had a blast watching Emily (@emorethanthat) and the wildly talented company @pomegranate.playhouse put on a ridiculously silly and fun show Saturday night - "Swept Away By Murder" as a drunken stage reading at @newmarignytheatre. Here are a bunch of quick snaps I took not-so-surreptitiously from my second row seat. In case you're wondering, the shots were sent to the actors by the audience and the audience didn't hold back... I'm kind of amazed the actors were still standing at the end of this thing.

@emorethanthat and I enjoyed a little opera today at the @neworleansopera Scenic Studio open house. Here's a little duet by Zara & Kieva. Enjoy! (though my janky phone mic doesn't do it justice). #neworleansopera taken in New Orleans Opera Association by @writtenbydave

Nothing like a little Mardi Gras fun to close out August, and of course you know the Dolly's showed up to pay proper tribute to the legend! I do love living in New Orleans.

Check this out! "Flautista," a 10-minute play I wrote, just got picked as a finalist for STAAR Theatre's One Act Play Contest (Southern Tennessee Area Arts Repertory). They're doing a live public staged reading of all the finalists on August 15th at their theatre in Pulaski, TN, south of Nashville. They're also streaming the whole thing live if you want to tune in. Details at staartheatre.org. Can't wait for my words to be brought to life by this dedicated group of artists... appreciate their support of the theatre arts and writers like me!

This past Wednesday we got to witness something special as our neighbor around the corner Big Chief Monk Boudreaux had Valence Street dedicated to him for a lifetime of achievement and a legacy that will be immortal in the history of New Orleans. So many big chiefs, family, friends, and neighbors turned out to celebrate this man and show their love and respect. Amazing.

New Exhibit opening April 10 - if you'll be in New Orleans, go check it out! At Scale (right next door to Ogden Museum). I'll have a piece in the installation built out of three photos I took last year.
