@dualipa crushing it at the @brits has been one of the live music highlights of my career so far, and that night has been one of the most reassuring in recent memory as far as recognizing who the movers, shakers, trouble makers and rule breakers in the industry are for 2018. From figuring out how to fix Wikipedia for music publishers to thinking up how to do Instagram marketing for / with compositions and sound clips, and learning more and more about who stands with strengthening diversity in practice, this series of awards for stellar excellence and import came with calls to action and encouragement across so many facets of our industry.

There’s a car in orbit around earth, the Falcon Heavy’s third burn was successful, dual Falcon 9s successfully landed, and the sale of 20,000 ‘max fun for least danger’ flamethrowers is funding the future of transportation underneath LA.
Also there’s some mind-blowing street art around @number90bar, sick DJ sets from the likes of @thelongone78 and great holistic life chat to be had with @xpatchx.

Generations of my family have found their way to Hong Kong, and my first time there remains one of the most impactful weeks of my life to date. Working with strangers-turned-colleagues from more than ten countries in the early days of my time at Music Ally, thinking about the past and future visits and work to be done in this city is as fulfilling as it gets for me.

There’s an opposite to déjà vu. They call it jamais vu. It’s when you meet the same people or visit places, again and again, but each time is the first. Everybody is always a stranger. Nothing is ever familiar. And then there's nostalgia - it's delicate, but potent. In Greek, "nostalgia" literally means "the pain from an old wound." It's a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone.

New places bring new friendships, which are surrounded by and experienced with emotions of all sorts and intensity.
Some places feel right, without bringing on déjà vu, nostalgia or jamais vu. Quiet corners of new cities, when wandering alone, where you can connect with one individual stranger and share a moment, are where we can find out as much about ourselves as we can in the deepest conversations we have with our best friends. It’s how we learn from others, when we barely grasp where they come from, what they do every day, what they really care about. It’s places like White Wabbit Records in Taipei that I’ve felt closer to a stranger than I ever have in London. No concept of what was expected of me, browsing the store and talking to the solitary person working the shop that Sunday afternoon—I was the only one in the store to shop—asking what I should be listening to while I was in Taiwan, and what the best music he had heard recently was, launched an entire afternoon of sharing stories and music and laughs. I miss that.
