One of the things that I love, but don’t take for granted, is living 20 minutes from the Ocean. Today, we enjoyed an evening dinner on the Isle of Palm, just over the bridge from our home in Mount Pleasant. Can you say fresh catch anyone? #lowcontryliving taken in Isle of Palms Beach by @wtrdmd

I think the year was 2005, I had an opportunity to go on a mission trip to Senegal in West Africa. It was extremely hot there and the sun was very intense! Intuitively, one might think, like here in America, short pants and short sleeve shirts would be the clothing of choice…..Wrong!!!
Because of the intensity of the sun, you need to protect and cover your skin. Both the men and the women wore long, loose fitting garments that covered all of your skin. The men wore long pants with a long top that extending down to and below your knees.
One of the highlights at the end of the trip, was to go into the market, pick out some fabric, and have a Taylor custom make an outfit for you.
The material was almost always cotton and the prints were always colorful and the patterns were so different from what we typically find in America.
If you notice the outfit I am wearing here, the top almost completely covers the pants and this was typical. A cool functional feature of the tops was little slots cut in the side of the top, at the level of side pockets in the pants, such that you could access your pockets without having to lift up the top. Intuitively, you might think these outfits were hot, but the combination of the material, the loose fitting and the covering of the skin, made these outfits very comfortable to wear in the extreme heat. taken in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina by @wtrdmd

Happy Anniversary Beautiful! Who knew when we met as High School Students visiting Syracuse University for the weekend, that we would end up sharing this wonderful life together!
