Our P1 students are getting valuable hands-on experience in the lab as they put their classroom knowledge into practice! Students recently had the opportunity to compound a normal saline nasal solution and dextromethorphan cough syrup, gaining firsthand experience with the precision and attention to detail required in medication preparation.🧪🥼

P1 student Kate D shared, “I was excited to get hands-on experience preparing medications and to see how what we’re learning in class applies to practice. It also helped me appreciate the precision that goes into compounding. I really enjoyed it, and I’m looking forward to making more medications in lab!” by @wupharmacy

Community, Health & Fun!
This past Saturday, September 26, our community came together at the Monroe Science Center for a day focused on health, education, and connecting families with valuable resources!

Attendees enjoyed free admission to the Monroe Science Center, along with health information and screenings provided by Novant Health and Wingate Health Sciences and free flu shots provided by Walgreens. Families also had access to free clothing from The Closet, school supplies, books from the UCPS Mobile Book Bus, and children’s activities with Wingate Athletics. Many community partners were also there to connect attendees with helpful resources and services.

We loved being part of an event that brought so many organizations together to support the health and well-being of our community. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the day possible! 💙

On September 24th, our student ambassadors had the opportunity to present to the UNC Charlotte Pre-Pharmacy Club! We loved connecting with future pharmacy professionals, sharing about our organization, and encouraging students as they pursue their goals in healthcare.

WUSOP GAME SHOW COMPETITION!

Last Thursday, our Student Activity Committee hosted a Game Show Competition featuring Top 200 and MTA! Students put their knowledge to the test, enjoyed some friendly competition, and earned points for their classes!

A huge congratulations to our P1 students for taking home the win!

Last Thursday, Dr. Nelson’s IGP5 class explored respiratory infections through concept mapping and the jigsaw learning method! Students worked in teams to research different respiratory infections, collaborate with their peers, and share their knowledge with their groups.

Through teamwork and active learning, our future pharmacists strengthened their clinical knowledge and understanding of respiratory infections!

Serving our community, one person at a time!

On September 19th, Christian Medical Outreach Organization had the opportunity to provide free health screenings for the men at Ground 40. It was a meaningful day of serving others, building community, and connecting with an incredible organization doing important work in our community.

The WUSOP RISE (Reflect, Integrate, Succeed, Excel) Program mentors, mentees, and faculty came together for a fun-filled Saturday of bowling!
It was a great opportunity to connect, build relationships, and enjoy some friendly competition outside of the classroom. 💙

✨We are proud to highlight P4 Meghan Melton who had the opportunity to be a featured speaker in Health Professions Student Association student showcase! ✨

“ I delivered a presentation highlighting my journey into the profession of pharmacy, from beginning as a pharmacy technician to becoming a student pharmacist and CVS Health pharmacy intern. I also discussed my experiences in community pharmacy, serving rural communities, and the diverse opportunities available within the pharmacy profession.” -Meghan

P3 Interprofessional Education at VCOM!

On September 11, our P3 student pharmacists traveled to VCOM in Spartanburg, SC, for an engaging Interprofessional Education experience!

Our student pharmacists had the opportunity to collaborate with students from a variety of healthcare professions, including PA, nursing, and DO. Together, they worked through patient-care scenarios, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and communication in providing comprehensive care; not only to patients, but also to their families and caregivers.

Experiences like these help our future healthcare professionals learn from one another and prepare to work together as a team to provide the best possible care. by @wupharmacy
