POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Our Fall 2026 catalog shines a light on mental illness, agricultural practice, and surreal fiction with five new titles to pick up—physically or digitally. And by the way, all WVU Press ebooks are now half the price of their print counterparts!

🍃 What Kind of Mother: A Reckoning (Judy Sandler)—"...a heartbreakingly vulnerable and sobering portrayal of what it is like to watch your child spiral into addiction and reckon with the life-altering effects of mental illness.”

🍃 Let All Our Ghosts Depart: Stories (Meghana Mysore)—"In these visionary stories ex-lovers metamorphose into strangling scarves and three generations of women joyfully transform into rainbow-hued squirrels; the dead refuse their deaths even as the living must fight to be alive."

🍃 The New Decentralists: The Back-to-the-Land Movement and the Politics of Localism in Appalachia, 1968-2000 (Jinny A. Turman)—"A fascinating read on a subject of vital historical importance—and one that has much to say about our contemporary political difficulties."

🍃 Wide Branches, Deep Roots: How Appalachian Wisdom Can Help in the Fight for a Sustainable Future (Jessica M. Jones and Amanda E. Hayes)—"...a joy to anyone who has known the truth all along—that sustainability and environmental stewardship in the Appalachian region is not just a passing fad, but an inherited practice since the region's inception."

🍃 Elsewhere: How the US Food System Cultivates, Conceals, and Consumes Its Violence (Stian Rice)—"…a richly detailed examination of the American food system’s propensity to violence in accumulating massive surpluses, profits, and power.” by @wvupress

The most incredible book launch event for LET ALL OUR GHOSTS DEPART Friday night @cafeconlibros_bk!!! Such beautiful energy in Brooklyn, in this room. ❤️ So grateful to kalima, Saige, @rewritingdestiny for connecting me to this space & @cafeconlibros_bk, which offered the warmest, coziest place to celebrate these stories. Thank you to my mentor & @hollins_mfa professor @karenebender for a lovely conversation, for writing books that inspire me, for supporting me through these years and giving me the encouragement and feedback in the MFA that I needed, that helped this book become what it is. So so touched by every person in and outside of this room, by my family & friends (happy birthday @sarahhnope!!) & literary agent & former student for showing up, by everyone I know & don’t know who might be touched by these stories—thanks to intersectional, feminist indie bookstores; thanks to all of you who make this matter so much. taken in Cafe con Libros, Bk by @wvupress

Book tour stop 3: returning to western MA, reading in the lovely @odysseybookshop with brilliant @jen_acker asking me perceptive questions about my short story collection. I especially loved the bathroom of @odysseybookshop with various authors’ signatures…and I got to add my name! Thanks to my friends for capturing these moments & for holding me, providing places to rest. Curious about ghosts, broken-down cars holding the spirits of dead mothers, rainbow squirrels speaking of intergenerational relationships, and more? 👀 👻 get a signed copy of LET ALL OUR GHOSTS DEPART @odysseybookshop, available in person and online. Next stop is Brooklyn, NY (Fri, Sep 25). I’d love to see you :) taken in Odyssey Bookshop by @wvupress

What an incredible reading at @hollinsuniversity @hollins_mfa! I read last night alongside another MFA alum, poet Hank Hudepohl, and it felt very emotional to return to the place where so many of these stories started, with professors @karenebender, Scott Blackwood, @our_pauline_kaldas, Jessie van Eerden, Elizabeth Poliner, and so many more. ❤️ Thanks to all the folks who made this event possible—and to Zach Shea for the sweetest intro. And to @imapoetniknowit @chanlee_chicklit for being there 💕

I was perhaps most touched by the current MFA and undergrad students I met, who told me about their dreams and aspirations with their writing, their current projects, and what they’re reading that inspires them. And by the student who told me that seeing me reading up there, looking the way I do, made her feel that this all could happen for her, too. It can.

BOOK HAS LAUNCHED!!! Thank you to @impasta.syndrome for making this event possible, bookseller Jennifer, all the booksellers, and the bookstore @greedyreads for creating this amazing, warm space. I couldn’t have imagined a better place to begin this journey of launching Let All Our Ghosts Depart. I was moved that my dad could come to this first event, and to see beloved friends and humans from past and present parts of my life—to see them in conversation about art and books and their power. Thank you to Marian Crotty for writing such beautiful stories and asking me beautiful questions, to my friends who showed up and warmed my heart. ♥️ and to the sweet bookstore dog who was also in attendance. This was a special evening, one I’ll remember forever. Thank you for caring about these stories, for caring about stories. I can’t tell you how much it moves me inside.

Tomorrow, I’m at @hollinsuniversity @hollins_mfa, in the Green Drawing Room at 7:30! I can’t wait to be back where I did my MFA and began creating these stories. See my last post for details. SW and Central VA friends and community—see you there! And the tour continues 💫 taken in Greedy Reads- Remington by @wvupress
