independent girl saturday in barcelona!!! I moved here a year ago, and if I could give my past self one piece of advice it would be to START DOING SH*T ALONE SOONER.

the biggest flex you can have is enjoying your own company and when I was living in LA, I got really really good at hanging out with myself… but the minute we touched down in spain, I let the discomfort of the unfamiliar trick me into thinking I’d be better off using the buddy system for essentially everything.

I treated my husband like a security blanket for coffee runs, grocery shops, dog walks, wine dates, reading on a park bench, whatever. I recognize the privilege of not HAVING to do anything by myself — moving abroad alone is a completely different beast — but at the same time, continually choosing *not* to trust myself to do things alone kinda fcked me up.

I have this vivid memory of being a few months in and suddenly feeling SO desperately disconnected from myself. I was still doing all the things that brought me joy, they just weren’t hitting the way they should. (cue googling “do I have seasonal depression?” while it was 25C and sunny).

I went out for a walk that morning completely alone — no dogs, no husband — and just wandered the quiet, sun-drenched streets, GENUINELY feeling the spark return to my body with every step.

that’s when I realized I had been neglecting my relationship with MY GIRL, MYSELF.

ever since, I make it a priority to hang out w her (me) solo as much as possible, and relishhhh in a saturday bopping around the city with zero buffer for my bad spanish. it’s character building.

let this little vlog remind you that it’s ACTUALLY SO FUN AND NOURISHING to do things alone (even if you don’t technically “have to”)!!
