“Between Heaven and Earth, I Am Open”
Acrylic on 30”x40” Canvas

I was inspired by Mexican photographer Marcela Toboada’s photo “Halo de Luz”. I felt like I was looking at a version of myself, the past and the present. A Mother and a child who moves with hope. This painting is a reminder to myself and others that no matter how dark of a place you’re in, no matter how much society wants to keep you in the dark, no matter how uncomfortable it can be to stand in the light, when the shadows appear, take those moments to transform. Move with faith, believe in yourself. Step into the light, even if it’s just a single ray of light shining through the cracks, remember to remain open.

#TBT The North/West Denver Cortez that I customized for the Ten Toes Down event with @olddenver @theyshootn back in October. I’ve been wanting to share some small details on these sneakers for a while now. Here are a few close up images of the embroidery on the tongue, a bead on the laces, my wing on the backs of the sneakers as well as St. Cajetans/La Raza park Temple. In keeping with Huichol tradition, I chose to tell a story through the Cortez. When I got the idea, I felt like I heard a whisper telling me to tell a story about North/West Denver in this style I’ve been wanting to learn about since I was a child. After doing some research, I went for it, one bead at a time, I listened and followed the directions of a higher power and here’s what came out of it. My hands were the tools used to tell this story, but I also know that these are not just my story, or something that I made inspired by this sacred tradition. These are their own entity and I’m the lucky Xicana who got to tell their story. #Xencs #beadsofsweat #xlwingthings #doallthingswithlove #Huichol #Wixárika #tentoesdown #channelingmyancestors #notforsale taken in Denver, Colorado by @xencs333

It’s that time of the year, when we connect and reunite with our loved ones who have passed. Last year I had the honor of painting a 4’x4’ piece live at @muertosenwestwood (follow for more info). Here are some highlights from the event and the last time my Papa was able to attend one of my events, since his health started to decline and I decided to put energy into spending time with my family. He/we had the best time and he spent the whole day with us! Please come out to see the finished piece back in Westwood for their Día de Los muertos celebration and art show this weekend, along with other artists. Thank you @armando_geneyro @anthonymvze for these great photos and thanks to The Sun for the videos and selfies. I’m beyond excited to have finished this painting and share it with you all. 11/1, 11/2, 11/3 3929 Morrison Rd. @hechoenwestwood @culturachocolate @ms.bonita.applebum thank you for providing beautiful spaces where we can be ourselves. #agirlandherdad #dedicatedtomypapa #reunited #doallthingswithlove #thisainthalloween #artishealing #reunidos #xencs by @xencs333

Trust the process. My hand was a little rusty on this one, but it quickly remembered what to do. Like riding a bike! “La Chenca”Acrylic/mixed media for the self portrait exhibit. IN IXTLI IN YOLLOTL, which in Nahuatl means “face and heart,” symbolizes the concept of personality, which is unique to humankind.
The concept; Because human beings are born without a defined face and heart, the supreme ideal of education is based on Ixtlamachiliztli, or the “act of giving wisdom to faces,” and Yolmelahua Liztli, or the “act of straightening hearts.” And this is the task of the tlamatinime (teachers) and parents: to make faces wise and hearts firm through education in order to achieve the supreme ideal, to be masters of their own face and heart. Thank you for the invite @inezz_arte and @genesis_gallery_lumc (Metzli for helping) and @armando_geneyro for the photo reference. Love Love. #Xencsarte #doalñthingswithñove #LaChenca by @xencs333

“La Chenca” Acrylic/Mixed Media on Canvas. I had a great time participating in the IN IXTLI IN YOLLOTL, which in Nahuatl means “face and heart,” self portrait exhibit. Here is my painting that has lifted me in a way that I didn’t expect, it’s inspired by a photo taken by @armando_geneyro during El Día de los Muertos years ago. As I was painting, I was reminded how much I love life and honoring our loved ones who transitioned out of life into the next realm. We remember, we keep going and we laugh through our tears and memories while missing them. It’s been 2 years since I lost the first man who loved me, my Papa. Painting my sugar skull inspired face and eyes was a special moment because these eyes were younger and had less sadness and a lot of hope. A reminder that there is so much more life left in us if we allow it, while we’re still here. These eyes were a reminder of how far I’ve come as a Mom and more. I stepped back and through this face I feel like my heart is stronger, I realized how much my hands missed creating, it’s been a while since I’ve completed a new piece. Coming back to putting energy into my art by doing a self portrait was perfect timing. I wouldn’t have done this on my own, so thank you @inezz_arte and @genesis_gallery_lumc for including me in this exhibit. I’m Chenca(Xencs) the daughter of Tanque and Rosita, and I still have hope, I still love life, I see my Parents in my face, even as it changes with age. A reminder to keep going. Thank you, everyone who came out to the exhibit, shared the event and sent good energy over my way. Mucho mucho amor 🙏🏽 #LaChenca #Doallthingswithhlove #XencsArte #CallherXencsbecausehermamadoes by @xencs333

“La Lucha Sigue.” Looking into Dolores’s eyes felt so familiar—they have that same sparkle and wisdom I see in the women in my family. Honestly, it felt like we’d met before. She is so poised, stylish, and full of energy. Sharing my art with her last year felt like touching history. And y’all—she actually gasped when she saw it! I thought I understood her journey, but found out along with the world, a year later that this painting tells a part of her story she’s kept private for a long time.
@color_latina made this connection possible at their LATINO A advocacy event by gifting her a print of the piece I painted for the year before. It’s a woman with her fist in the air, moving forward, her hand on her womb as rays of light lift her. May we all continue to listen and lift each other up. Let’s be the safe spaces where we can thrive and change the world. My teenage self would never believe this connection happened. Thank you for the invite @_timhernandez , @sugarbabyboy and COLOR Latina. Thank you Rachel and Marcia for your support with this piece and @armando_geneyro for being there to capture this moment. “La Lucha Sigue” #doallthingswithlove #xencsarte #laluchasigue #doloreshuerta taken in Downtown Denver by @xencs333

I’m so excited to be a part of this exhibit!
IN IXTLI IN YOLLOTL 6/5
This Exhibition is a self portrait exhibit. The piece that I worked on is inspired by a photo that @armando_geneyro took of me. A version that I feel represents part of who I am. Inspired by life. It’s a trip because painting my own eyes had me in a place I’ve never been before. Very moving to paint a past version of me, and to think about how far I’ve come. I hope you can join us.
More about the meaning:

This exhibition is about your authentic, raw, self, and who knows oneself best?

“I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best”
..Frida Kahlo

The opening reception will be held on
June 5th 2026 from 6-8 pm
Genesis Gallery
1390 Brentwood St
Lakewood CO 80214

I included a sneak peak of the piece.
Thank you @inezz_arte and @ehecatl_metzli for creating this space and moment for us to be ourselves. Love love love #INIXTLIINYOLLOTL #xencsarte #doallthingswithlove taken in Genesis Gallery by @xencs333

Instagramlandia, we have a 15yr old! Happy Birthday to The Sun (Eye-Q)! It’s hard for me to believe that he’s 15, we’ve had so many adventures, fun and heavy, yet he continues to move with a great attitude like his Grandpa. I’m inspired by his passion for learning, audio engineering, playing music and making music/art. He is a helper, witty, chill guy, smart and intuitive. 15 feels so different than the other years, it’s like a bridge between childhood dependence and adult independence. No longer a young child, but not yet an adult. It’s exciting and I been crying happy tears all morning thinking about all of the versions of The Sun that we’ve been blessed with. Thanks to our village for helping us raise and lift him. Can’t wait to see what he does next. Keep going, Sun! Can’t stop won’t stop! Love you, my Quetzal 💕☀️. #Quince
