april was a busy one. i was home for maybe 10 days total… so yeah, kind of dreaming about sleeping for 22 business days. kidding (sort of). alec and clem aren’t going to write themselves

d and i (&zuko) escaped to montauk to celebrate on guard’s release, which was very needed and very cold. then i flew to spain and hiked 62 miles from santiago de compostela to finisterre, because apparently i relax by doing mildly extreme things. being outside has always been how i reset, and it felt like the right way to get into the highest point mindset.

-celebrated our 5 year anniversary in the Florida keys
-adopted a new family member, Euphemia
-started knitting again
-falling for meadow release in california
-close knit writing month + p&b recovering complete
-stardew valley obsession & started lexapro
-trying to finish close knit with stitches in my hand
-the girls started finally getting along
-hiking in the dolomites & first book signing
-halloween horror nights & cyst removal
-birthday month
-finished on guard & holidays in mexico

After writing our first series together, starting out with fresh, new characters was daunting, but Cameron and Daphne’s story made it easy. •Chapter 30•

Whoever said your twenties are the best years of your life must have been mistaken because the best part of a romance book is rarely the beginning (unless you’re reading the tragedies). It’s the middle and the ending that you cling too & I’m certain my story has only just begun.

The last decade was one of instrumental growth, beautiful love, painstaking discovery, heartache, depression, loss, & tremendous strides towards an unknown future but far from the best years. The best is yet to come because I’ve just finally arrived at a place where I’m trusting myself. I’m trusting my intuition and discovering myself through all the trauma, suppressed emotions and “shoulds”.

When I was 20 I was broken. A child castaway into the world with nothing but this undeniable need to prove everyone who hurt me wrong. I set out on a goal to discover who I was.

I searched the world with this insatiable need to travel. I read countless books hoping answers laid between the pages. I moved endlessly thinking maybe my location was the issue. I climbed mountains hoping that maybe a voice would whisper all the answers.

But alas, in the end what I was searching for was the quiet moments. The moments I allowed myself to listen.

The truth is there is no answer to life. No rule book to follow. No rights or wrongs but just experience.

I never saw myself past thirty, but now that it’s here I can’t wait for every new etching the world has in store for me.

To my twenties: you brought me a happy marriage, 34 countries, 30 states, 5 career paths, 2 adopted kitties, 2 college degrees, a business I get to run with my best friend, 5 books written, 4 states lived in and countless good meals, amazing friends & lots of love.

A year ago I decided to quit my corporate job to peruse being an author.

If I were to tell 17 year old kels (who was essentially homeless and living on peoples couches) that at 29 I would be writing books with my best friend I would have laughed in your face.
Being poor shaped so much of my early twenties. I never had a “typical college” experience. I worked full time, took 6 years to get a degree in economics then worked in finance and learned how to code because that’s “where the money was” but I never actually felt happy. Actually my depression got worse and worse to the point where nothing really seemed worth getting out of bed anymore.

Then I stumbled onto booktok and started connecting with people who also used reading as a coping mechanism. I finally felt like I wasn’t alone and then I started writing again for fun but was too nervous to ever publish a book. The intrusive negative thoughts were papable “I’m dyslexic, I can’t spell, no one would buy it, I can’t write, I can’t quit my “safe” job to peruse something creative…only rich people can do that. People will laugh at me.”

But then I met Denise. The first day we talked on the phone for over 5 hours and we both mentioned “I would love to write but….” And we then started discussing okay but what if we tried to write together. So we started. It took months of trial and error to learn to write together. We had breakdowns about the cover, the plots, of being seen as just booktok authors and not “real authors”. Now a year later we’ve published 2 books👀 and have finished the first draft of our third book.

I’ve never once regretted quitting my job. Sure everyday I battle imposter syndrome. It’s scary and terrifying to not know if people will love our books, but at the end of the day I love them and I’m much happier.

Thank you to every single one of you that have taken a chance on our books, posted a review, sent us a message, purchased the paperbacks, read on KU, joined our Patreon. I’m forever grateful and can’t wait to publish many more books 💖

some things ive been enjoying

-ginger tea (even in 100 degree weather)
-trips to nyc to visit Denise (even tho this is the only picture I got)
-booping my cats paws (obviously)
-buying new plants & then having husband carry plants for me
-reading messages from people who loved oss
-daily morning water walks
-drafting On Cloud Nine our 3rd book in the Perks & Benefits series. Im obsessed with Molly and Matthew and think y’all are gonna love them

Also not shown but very much in love with is, for the kings, which is a coop ps4 game like D&D that my husband and I stayed up way to late playing on more than one occasion by @xokelsstone

Our Scorching Summer is officially here and free to read on Kindle Unlimited, ebook & paperback.

Phew, it’s been a fun, exciting, wild journey writing and publishing our sophomore novel. We put so much of our humor and heart into Lily and Nico’s love story and we hope you love them as much as we loved writing them.

It’s really hard to describe how thankful I am for this community for not only bringing @withlovedac and I together, but also for supporting our author journeys. My entire twenties I spent at jobs that were less than fulfilling and struggling to find a career that would make me happy to show up every day. Now as I enter my thirties, I can confidently say that I can’t imagine doing anything other than writing impactful love stories with my bestie.

D - we spend 1000000 hours together and I’m still obsessed with you. Probably makes sense because we are the same person, with the same brain. I cant wait until we live in the same state and can draw spicy scene diagrams in person rather than on Canva. 🤭 Here is to many(many,many many) more books together, your stuck with me for the long haul. Love you🧡
