A late evening at Ông Mười’s salt farms in Vĩnh Hải became a serene, expansive setting for our recent ‘Trăm Năm Hạnh Phúc’ (A Hundred Years of Happiness) dinner.

A soft imitation of a local Vietnamese wedding celebration, held beneath a makeshift fabric canopy, brought together old and new histories of love and friendship.

Vietnamese weddings held in the familiar intimacy of home: front yards transformed for the day with makeshift fabric tents, layered textiles, tablecloths, and rows of plastic chairs.

An everyday space becomes something special, not through grandeur, but through the simple act of dressing it up, filling the tables with food, and making room for everyone to gather.

Plates of gỏi, heart-shaped gấc sticky rice marked with the Double Happiness symbol, and shared dishes pass from one person to another as both families sit together, eat, talk, and celebrate. by @xuan_table

Con,

Không biết khi nào lá thư này mới tới tay con. Tuần sau hay tuần sau nữa?

Mẹ viết thư từ bữa nấu nồi thịt kho con thích. Mẹ vẫn nấu như vậy nhưng ăn lại không thấy ngon. Giờ mà con ở nhà, con thích món gì mẹ cũng nấu.

Dù ở xa, chỉ cần con nhớ: con vui là mẹ vui rồi.

Con, mẹ đợi con về.

I don’t know when this letter will reach your hands,
next week,
or the week after.

I’m writing as I make a big pot of thịt kho, your favourite dish.
I made it and sat down to eat,
but it didn’t taste as good on my own.

Now that you’re coming back,
whatever you feel like eating,

SEESON 199 Điện Biên Phủ, HCM

Không gian thường thấy với chiếc cầu đá được biến hoá thành một bàn tiệc để đón tiếp bạn bè, người thân của thương hiệu đến cùng chung vui và khép lại một năm vừa trôi qua.

Xuất phát từ ý niệm của đoàn viên, của kết nối con người trong một bữa cơm gia đình đến từ trải nghiệm của những người Việt xa quê của @xuan_table , ngày hôm ấy, tại SEESON, chúng tôi đã muốn tái hiện lại bữa cơm gia đình tất niên vào lúc chúng tôi còn bé. Khi ấy, mọi người còn ngồi quây quần dưới đất với tấm vải bạt đỏ, cùng những người thân, những người bạn cũ lâu ngày không gặp, và cả những người bạn mới quen, ăn những món ăn nhà làm trong một không khí đầm ấm gia đình khi năm cũ qua và một năm mới sắp đến.

Bữa tối bắt đầu bằng lá thư tay mẹ gửi, tiếp nối với hành trình vị giác nhiều bất ngờ đến từ đầu bếp @alainpham__ - cũng là một người Việt xa quê với những sáng tạo đến từ những kí ức và trải nghiệm riêng của anh về quê mình, và kết thúc bằng những tấm ảnh của bữa ăn gia đình ngày cũ đến từ sưu tầm cá nhân của @t_a_n_k_y mà hiện tại vẫn đang được trưng bày tại không gian SEESON Sài Gòn.

Sat waiting for each dinner guest: a letter from a mother to her child, longing to share a family meal again.

Translation:

My child,

I don’t know when this letter will reach your hands,
next week,
or the week after.

I’m writing as I make a big pot of thịt kho, your favourite dish.
