Exploring migration, mixed-race identity and matresence. Australia-Singapore-London @sladeschool MFA 2026
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
⭐️Graduating MFA student Yang-En Hume⭐️
@yangenhume

Yang-En Hume draws from her Australian-Singaporean heritage to weave together personal and collective histories. She holds and attends to stories that have not been traditionally well cared for: Dutch and British spice trades in Southeast Asia, textile craft, and lived experiences of migration and mixed-race identity. After giving birth to her son midway through her MFA, her practice has expanded to consider matrescence and caregiving.
Working across textiles, sculpture and painting, she explores the hybrid spaces that emerge when cultures and identities overlap. Growing up between Australia and Asia has shaped her understanding of home, belonging, and the unsettledness that often accompanies migrant experiences.

Delighted to have ‘After the body’ featured in Scrumping Apples curated by Farnaz Gholami.

Launching online: 3 August
On view: 3 August – 25 October
www.smallworksartgallery.com

Inspired by Hurvin Anderson’s ‘Scrumping,’ the exhibition brings together artists whose work explores memory, migration, belonging, and the evolving idea of home. Reflecting on movement across places, cultures, and generations, the selected works consider how identity is continually shaped through memory, lived experience, and imagination.
