Wonderful to see Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian: Tehran/New York open at @modernamuseet last night, and even more special to experience it with my brilliant colleagues @yassi_hma and @rosannaewiden.

Yassi Ali is Phillips’ specialist in Middle Eastern and South Asian art, and seeing the exhibition through her eyes was extraordinary. Her insights added so much to the experience and gave me a deeper appreciation of the works.

Bringing together nearly 100 works from 1970 to 2015, the exhibition explores a practice shaped by a life between Tehran and New York, bringing Iranian traditions into conversation with the experimentation of post-war art.

Her mirrored works are perhaps the most immediately recognisable, but I loved seeing them alongside her drawings, collages, rugs and Heartache Boxes. Together, they offer such a rich picture of an artist who moved so naturally between geometry, architecture, craft and abstraction.
