“Autumn leaves shower like gold, like rainbows, as the winds of change begin to blow.” 🍁

I collaborated with my friend @viviepperson to create this fine art piece. I actually met her husband several years ago in Brazil and then we naturally became friends after she married him. We have a lot of the same interests, but she lives super far away so we don’t see them much. She’s absolutely gorgeous and I’ve been dying to create something with her, and she did not disappoint.

Week 42: Portal

Imagination is a portal to any reality ✨

I took the window photo about eight years ago at This is the Place Park in Salt Lake. I used an old grass photo and painfully masked every single blade using my plant brushes. No AI here, just my camera and @photoshop 🙌🏼

Another shoot from last year with my cousin, Christa. A family was literally having a cookout next to us while we shot all these pics. It was so awkward but so worth it 🤣🤣

We considered bringing a tv or two for the shoot, but thought against it because they’re very fragile and heavy. My husband (who collects old tvs) would also have had a heart attack! So they were all composited in. No AI here! 🚫

I had someone tell me that I’ve strayed from my roots because my edits have become too simple. Well, take you a look at the before and tell me what is simple.

These edits take hours to create and this one is no exception. I used the clone tool this time around as well as some old fashioned copy and paste to remove the background borrowing from other parts of the image. The dress was edited using liquify to create movement. The coral and key were composited in and all shadows and highlights were painted manually by yours truly 🫳🏼 🎤

Hey all! My name is Linda and I am taking over @dearphotographer_ig for the week. I am a composite photographer located in the northern Utah area.

Some fun things about me:

1. I’ve been compositing for over 18 years now! My neighbor let me borrow his Photoshop copy when I was in high school, and I instantly fell in love with my craft. Back then, compositing was a very new thing and largely unheard of. So it’s been such a joy to see more people join the composite world.

2. I’m living the mom life! I’m happily married to my bff and we have three little kids. I love them to pieces and they are my everything. Mothering is totally hard work tho. 😅🤣

3. I’m a terrible baker. I want to desperately be good at making cakes or anything British Bake Off makes, but I burn everything in the kitchen. 🤪

4. Because I composite, I take photos of EVERYTHING. So that means fire hydrants, clouds, birds, etc. I get the weirdest looks sometimes but I roll with it. I try to use my own photography in everything I create, so that requires a lot of random photos.

5. I can be found exploring, reading, or playing video games during my free time. I’m a simple creature. 💕

@silkenfoxllc and I teamed up again along with @jaredkennedy47 for another underwater photoshoot. The water was more shallow this time, so it was easier to maneuver underwater and pose.

Do you see the tiny fish in the background? I took those photos years ago during a trip at the Living Planet Aquarium.

A little peek at my process. The sand was edited in by using an old beach photo and setting the layer to Multiply to get this effect. The pool’s surface already had a grainy texture, so the sand photo amplified the look to create the illusion of sand.

All other images were edited in with color grading to match the photo and using a color overlay to mimic underwater murkiness. All you do is set the color using an eye dropper tool, then set it at Normal at an opacity between 20-40%. Works everytime 🙌🏼 by @yellow_psd

Week 18: Botanical

This week I teamed up with @silkenfoxllc to bring this idea to life. I originally was going to make this a self-portrait but when Sam told me that she struggles with chronic back pain, I knew this idea was meant for her.

I asked her to share her story. Here’s what she said:

Living with Hypermobility that has hastened the development of disc disease, has reshaped every part of my life. I have navigated treatments and surgery that has left my mind tired and my body fatigued. One of the challenges was losing the ability to run as an athlete. It was something that offered me identity, connection, and joy, so when I was left without it, I wasn’t sure who I was anymore. The hardest part was not knowing why for multiple years as I felt my spine cracking and concaving into itself.

But I am learning that healing doesn’t always mean returning to what my life was. Sometimes it is redefining strength, joy, and what movement can look like. This redefining is a discovery of something beautiful, even in the sharp edges of my new reality. Lately that has looked like sitting on the edge of a walking trail in the early morning hours waiting to see if wildlife crosses my path, or even dancing in a controlled and mindful expression. I’m happy I get to experience life with a new vantage point, not in spite of my challenges and newfound scars but alongside them.

Week Four: Fantasy from @sonyalphafemale 52 Week Creative Challenge

I feel like my head has been in the clouds for as long as I can remember. I was very imaginative as a kid- always coming up with fantastical scenarios with friends and dressing up to match our adventures. Now as an adult, my childhood lives on in my art. There’s something so nostalgic about my creative process, so vivid, it almost feels tangible. This is who I am. This is me.

I actually have a colored version but settled on this one instead. I think keeping the colors simple really brought out the whimsy and even some vintage vibes. I’m really happy with how this one turned out.

This is a continuation of my carousel series. I took the photo of the deer carousel about seven years ago. I’m so happy I was finally able to create with it. I enhanced the saddle a tiny bit with gen fill.

I’m actually the biggest wimp and don’t watch horror movies, but I love creating horror art. 😆

This photo was inspired by @julie_floro and her incredible low-light photography. The blood and creepy hand were both painted by hand, which made this shoot even more fun to create.

And can we talk about the lamp? I found it for just $8 at Deseret Industries, and I’m obsessed with how whimsical it is. 🥹

Week 38: Gold

“Gold runs in our veins.”

I painted that blood and I’m proud of it! This took about a week to create- mostly because I’m drowning in homework and unfinished laundry. Creating is my happy place, so even though I’m super stressed out with my current work load, I’ll always be here making something 💛

Week 29: Water

Better late than never, right? My piece “Transition” is especially fitting at the moment. Heading back to school has been a wild ride (fun fact: most of my classmates were born when I graduated high school 💀). Balancing school with being a wife, mom, and artist is a lot to handle, but I’m making it work and crushing it ✊🏼

This was from my collab with @silkenfoxllc from back in June which was the most magical photoshoot I’ve ever done. I can’t wait to do this again next year 🎉
