South Creek was first mentioned to me by David Reid nearly a decade ago, and every time I’d run into him, the conversation would go something like this:

“Have you gone and had a look at South Creek yet?”

“What’s it like?”

“We used to do it after work!” (Probably not true, given it took us five hours with modern gear and a shortened run.)

“Why did you stop running it?”

“Massive landslide at the top, but it should still be good.” (And it certainly was! Maybe the best steep creek in the Sea to Sky!!)

“Anything else we should look at, Dave?”

“North Creek. We tried it, but it was full of logs. You should still check it out!” (Maybe next season’s adventure?)

South Creek is an absolute gem of a river. Steep, adventurous and mostly clean, with a spectacular canyon we’ll definitely need to revisit!

The Oetz Trophy (Kayak Extreme World Championships) were actually supposed to take place at Wellerbrücke this weekend. Unfortunately, the event had to be cancelled due to problems with the sewage system.

Nevertheless, a huge thank you to Bernie from Source to Sea @s2s.at, who, together with his team and other cooperation partners, was planning to host the Oetz Trophy @oetz_trophy.

The Oeztaler Ache is currently closed to river traffic downstream from Soelden. The footage in this video was recorded before the public closure came into effect!
