It certainly wasn’t easy but this is what the power of possibility dreaming can do. It takes community, it takes courage and it takes determination.

If we could, we’d do it all over just to see the smiles on our young people’s faces as we resource, support and mentor them 🎉 by @ymanstrong

Humbled to be back at the @ymanstrong Youth Power Hub, this time cooking for the YMAN Board Retreat!

Always grateful for the chance to create another table rooted in good food, laughter, and community. Nights like this remind me what The Table is really about.

Glad I could make something nourishing for a group of people doing so much good work for young people across the country and world.

And shoutout to YMAN for doing what they do best: trusting young people. Even when that means trusting a 17-year-old with dinner. 😉

When I called my sister @tweiston I had one request: Help me create a space of Joy for men, the same way you do for women. When we think about Men who MENtor, Men who Educate, Men who need support for our MENtal Health, we think about BECOMING WELL. This is how the inaugural “Becoming Well Men’s Retreat” was born.

I am so grateful to @tweiston @drgayleserdan and @jadearceneaux_ and the @ymanstrong family for partnering with @mentorcalifornia and believing in our mission to make sure that our Men get to be held, loved and valued.

Thank you @mrmikedelarocha and @richiereseda and @theselfcarelab2 for creating spaces that allowed for tears, hugs, affirmations and encouragement. We have only begun to build out this work.

I was blessed to start my birthday speaking at the Becoming Well Men’s Retreat in the Inland Empire.

I was honored to share my story and hold space for these incredible men to share the impact of emotionally or physically absent fathers in our lives. We cried. We laughed. We forgave. We accepted. And we healed together.

My heart is full with so much love and gratitude. Thank you @tweiston and Gayle for your vision, wow, unbelievable. Thank you to everyone at @ymanstrong for all that you do for young people and families. And thank you to each and every man in that sacred circle today who were the best gift that I could have ever asked for on this special day.

I rarely share video or photos of these sacred spaces but today I wanted to share a small piece of the magic that takes place when men are able to be in community with each other. When we’re able to share our most intimate and vulnerable stories. When we’re able to hold each other and say, “You are loved. You are seen. You are sacred.”

Thank you for all of the birthday wishes. They mean the world to me. And thank you to my friends & family for always holding me down. I love you.

Something special is happening this week that will focus on our Men, Mentoring and Mental Health. In partnership with @ymanstrong and as a part of our California Men’s Service Challenge work, we will be doing the work. IYKYK. Muhammad Ali always said that it was the “Road Work” that mattered the most. It’s about giving yourself what you need!
