What happens to taste when information is infinite, AI can generate almost anything, & many aesthetics can be identified, reproduced & optimized instantly?

Discussed this with Andrew McClintock and Jason Yuan for a Culture Slop panel on taste, curation, criticism, intuition, and how culture gets made now.

Taste requires judgment and bias, but also empathy, curiosity and a value system. Sometimes you’re drawn to something before you can completely explain why.

In San Francisco rn we have the machines, the capital and increasingly the power to shape culture globally. But what kind of culture are we trying to build with that?

For FAI we made a hard-tech world’s fair crossed with an old-world culinary market, and then a great party.

An incredible pleasure to build it alongside @gracem_w and the FAI team, with @emma.yurochko, @thinkingmachines.ai, @ulysses.inc, @lachlanturczan, @thisisleastafford, @sanssho, @sweetgreen, @rainmakertech, @CakeCoquette, @ando, @adwaitz, and the many, many hands who brought the night to life. ❤️ taken in San Francisco, California by @yoesbeforebros

Somewhere between a world’s fair, an old-world market, a museum, and a state dinner!

For FAI’s American Innovation Reception at @saintjosephsartsfoundation

Giant wheels of cheese, Bread sculptures, Charcuterie carved live, blueprints and hard tech installations, a six-tier sponsor cake. Fireside conversations with Mira Murati (@_iraurati) and @mkratsios. Drinks with nods to tech lore. Surprise and delight in every nook and cranny.

One of my favorite parts of producing events is watching wild ideas materialize irl.

None of it happens without great collaborators and trust. Thank you @gracem_w for bringing us in and trusting me and the @futuretrashcann team with creating and producing the evening. @emma.yurochko for holding a thousand moving pieces together with a smile and gusto! @lachlanturczan for turning the dome into a light installation. @thisisleastafford and team for the museum quality installations. @sanssho and her incredible crew for coming in from NYC and taking our wildest culinary ideas from concept to reality, with @libbylark @julieastrain @chantael.takeuchi and Kyle McBride. Gabrielle at @CakeCoquette for building an absolutely gigantic dream of a cake. @ando_______________ for getting capturing the life and vision of the event perfectly & @adwaitz for beautifully documenting the evening on film. @darcidoes for flying up from LA and getting everyone dancing. @proevnt on service and @cherriesflowers on fabrications. @saintjosephsartsfoundation & Kennedy for being incredible partners. @sweetgreen (@nicolasjammet & Jonathan Neman) for the perfect late night surprise! And everyone who helped us build, clean up, and provide the best service for guests!

And Sofia, Eade, Cat, and Yi always!

It takes a lot of ideas and an extraordinary group of people to build one unforgettable evening ❤️ taken in Saint Joseph’s Arts Society by @yoesbeforebros

Join us for a conversation with Culture Slop’s Founder Andrew McClintock and Season One contributor Jason Yuan, moderated by Maritza Lerman Yoes ⭐️

Andrew McClintock is the Founder and Chief Taste Officer of Culture Slop, a print and web magazine covering art, culture, and technology. He is also the founder of Ever Gold [Projects], a contemporary art gallery based in San Francisco and Los Angeles that has presented more than four hundred exhibitions and public events since 2009. Previously, he was Co-Founder & CEO of On Approval a VC backed startup, and Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of a new media company called SFAQ.

Jason Yuan is the founder and CEO of Future Lovers, a social intelligence company. Previously, he co-founded AI startup New Computer; built Dot, a personal companion with narrative memory; and designed intelligent operating systems on Apple’s Human Interface team. His earlier work includes Mercury OS, a speculative operating system that generated UI from intent, anticipating the shift toward language-driven computing.

Maritza Lerman Yoes is the Founder & CEO of Future TrashCan and Founding Chief Cultural Officer of Culture Slop: Season One. A playwright by training, she connects art, technology, and media through cultural strategy, community, and programming.
