This October, Birmingham’s Parkside District will become a canvas for more than 40 artists as Yonder Walls brings its inaugural mural festival to the city.
The festival not only creates new public art; it allows artists to experiment, collaborate and share their work—and gives opportunities for people who may not have considered themselves muralists before.

“We want this to be for everyone,” Co-Director Rachel “Levi” Levinson says. “There’s no age limit.”

And it truly is. Yonder Walls is bringing together artists of different backgrounds and experience levels, including first-time muralists. One of those artists is a 72-year-old retired Miles College professor, who will be painting a mural for the first time.

In addition to paying their artists well, Yonder Walls organizers are intentionally and thoughtfully building year-round opportunities for education and mentorship. The goal is not only to bring established muralists to Birmingham, but to make the festival a point of entry for artists who have never painted a mural before. This year, about 35 percent of the participating artists are first-time muralists.

That is exactly what organizers hope the festival can make possible: more people finding a place in Birmingham’s creative community, whether they’ve been making art for decades or are picking up a paintbrush for the first time.

This October 17th, grab a chair or a picnic blanket, and watch as the walls come to life.

🚨🎉 We are so excited to announce that PYNK BEARD HIMSELF is going to be Yonder Walls’ first ever headliner! 🎉🚨 Come sing and dance the night away with us at URBAN SUPPLY in the Parkside District October 17th, SAVE THE DATE! It will be here before you know it!!

And in case you’ve been livin’ under a rock lately : Pynk Beard is the son of a Southern Preacher who grew up on soul, gospel and country music. He grew up to become a seasoned vocalist, award-winning songwriter, and soulful performer, Kole (who is an instrumental writer on 6 different Grammy winning and nominated albums) has now added a notch to his string of career milestones that include writing hit singles like Alessia Cara’s “Scars To Your Beautiful” and “Here,” and penning standout tracks for Alicia Keys, John Legend, Halle Bailey, and Jennifer Lopez, among many others. Now, writer Sebastian Kole is preparing to release music under the name PYNK BEARD, a bold new identity of country adjacent music that he has turned into something uniquely his own.

For Kole, this moment isn’t about accolades—it’s about stepping into the spotlight. With PYNK BEARD, he’s bringing his full artistry forward, offering a multidimensional take on Southern life and reclaiming space in a genre that has historically overlooked voices like his. PYNK BEARD is starting to garner fans in all corners of Country, Soul and Gospel and expanding into 2026 with upcoming appearances in a couple of Documentaries highlighting the Black experience in country music as well as being featured on America’s Got Talent this upcoming year.

At the roots of hip-hop—now a global phenomenon that speaks words of hope and compassion to people in their own language—are guardians of its precious gem of simplicity. Shaheed and DJ Supreme are two such sages, reminding future generations that all you need to tell your story are your rhymes and a rhythm to run it through.
The timeless duo from Birmingham, AL keeps it real, using hip-hop to spread wisdom through their multiple LPs and live performances alongside acts like Scarface, Jurassic 5, Atmosphere, The Jungle Brothers, KRS-One and more. Over the years, they’ve rep’d Alabama under the Communicating Vessels label while promoting community-based initiatives through their non-profit K.R.U. (Knowledge, Rhythm, and Understanding).

L.A.’s own Just Liv is truly the sunflower next door. Looking at the world around her as a beautiful garden, she’d like her music to be just like water, nursing, refreshing, and cool. Writing songs about love and life experiences, she often looks to plant life to depict universal truths; though her story telling is not limited to lessons pulled from the soil. Liv finds herself in the delicate balance between earthy and urban aesthetic, as well as R&B and Alternative sound. She also manages to navigate the world of a touring background vocalist and that of an independent artist. Having played music festivals all round the world with supporting acts like The Jonas Brothers, Skip Marley, Duckwrth and Willow Smith, she is delighted to make her festival debut as JUST LIV with Yonder Walls!

Daan Rana is a multidisciplinary artist, rapper, actor, and poet from Birmingham, Alabama. Blending hip-hop, theatre, storytelling, and experimental performance, his Southern Futuristic style explores survival, identity, memory, humor, and transformation. His performances turn music into living stories, creating worlds that ask one central question: What grows from the things we survive?

Dogs (out 5/2/25 on Seasick Records) is Cash Langdon’s second record under his own name, but the first joined by his band Meadow Dust (bassist Matt Whitson and drummer Reagan Bruce). Mostly recorded at Portside Studios (the former location of the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound) in just two days, engineer Brad Timko (Dan Sartain, St. Paul and The Broken Bones) captured the trio sounding fierce and tight. Their fuzzy take on heavy country rock recalls Neil Young & Crazy Horse and gives off the heat of Langdon’s native Birmingham. Like Young, his voice is simultaneously earnest and world-weary, but there’s a sense of humor too, and a resignation to keeping on (“Dogs”). These songs are beautiful, searing, southern-goth taken in Urban Supply by @yonderwalls

Birmingham’s about to look a little different.

In less than 30 days, on October 17, the first Yonder Walls Mural Festival takes over Urban Supply in Parkside - culminating a week in which artists from Alabama and across the South will create more than 25 new murals.

What makes this especially exciting is how Yonder Walls is approaching it. ALL artists are being paid (not industry standard), given real creative freedom, and emerging muralists get opportunities for mentorship. This is one of those things that’s for the creatives, by the creatives.

Pulling off something at this scale for the first time is no small feat. Huge credit to Levi Levinson, Jordan Thompson, Sean Gilder, and the entire Yonder Walls crew for betting this big on Birmingham’s creative community.

We’ll see y’all out there 🍻
