We hauled the coast to the mountains again! 🐟

Yesterday we made the drive to see our friends at @localsseafood, and y’all, we came home with a cooler full of the best North Carolina fish you can get your hands on.

Ryan and Lin started Locals back in 2010 selling Stumpy Point shrimp out of a tailgate cooler on the side of the road. Today their crew is down at the coast four or five times a week, buying straight off the boats from fishermen they know by name. Blue crab from Columbia, red drum from Wanchese, shrimp from Stumpy Point. They know where every fish came from and how it was caught.

Here’s something that might surprise you: most of the seafood caught off our coast gets shipped up north, and nearly 90% of what Americans eat is imported. Locals is out there working every day to keep NC fish here at home and keep our fishing families strong. That’s exactly the kind of folks we want to stand behind.

🐟 White Grunt - Named for the grunting sound it makes when it’s pulled from the water. Mild, sweet and flaky, an old-school Southern favorite. Fry it up and serve it over grits.

🦈 Dogfish - Yep, a little shark! Firm, mild and white with no fishy taste. It’s a classic for fish and chips across the pond, and most of what’s caught here gets shipped overseas. Try it battered and fried or on the grill.

🐟 Scamp Grouper - Ask a fisherman which grouper eats best and a lot of them will say scamp. Sweet, delicate and firm. Simply pan-sear it with butter and lemon.

Folks, maybe it’s a IYKYK thing or something. Which is cool. But, lord there seems to be a disconnect somewhere - per the norm. Maybe I’m typing from early morning, semi-consciousness thoughts. I’m really tired of this social media part of business, anyway. What do we do with that?

Did you know that we have so much meat and fish in our store from a decade of building relationships with local ranchers and NC fishermen? Why bother spending your money at the big box stores when you know the ground “beef” is not from an American rancher and consists of over a thousand animals and parts? Did you know that our meat supply in the country is so co-opted that all restaurants serve you that crap, too - unless they’re truly responsible chefs who care about sourcing? It’s just weird what we’re doing. Stop rolling over on it. Choose where you spend your money and spend it wisely. Eat Real Food. Nourish yourselves and your family. Support your local economy.

Holiday preorders are open at Yonder! 🦃🍖

Skip the factory meats. This year’s table deserves better. We’ve been bringing ya’ll the best for a decade and the relationships remain the same. Here’s what we’re bringing in for the holidays:

🍯 Huckleberry Hardwood Honey Ham: heritage Berkshire ham glazed with wild huckleberries and raw hardwood honey. Fully cooked, half or whole. Plain hams available too.

🦃 Nicholas Breed Turkey: all-natural, pasture and woodland raised, and delivered fresh. Never frozen, never brined. Whole birds or bone-in breasts.

🐑 Local American Lamb: pasture-raised just down the road in Franklin. Rack, leg, and shoulder roasts.

✨ And more: whole duck, pheasant, Cornish hen, elk and venison racks, pork butt, and anything else we can source for your table. Just ask!
