Over the last 30 days, Yonkers firefighters responded to more than a dozen working structure fires citywide, including multiple multi-alarm fires and one four-alarm fire, during some of the coldest and most difficult weather of the winter. With temperatures below freezing and streets covered in snow and ice, our members operated on frozen roofs, stretched hose lines over snow and black ice, and worked extended overnight operations to protect lives and property. These were not routine calls, but serious fires requiring significant manpower, coordination, and hours of work in extreme winter conditions.

From January through February, these incidents impacted every part of Yonkers. We are proud of the firefighters who answer every call, no matter the hour or the weather. Yonkers is protected because your fire department shows up ready, every single time. by @yonkersfire

As 2025 comes to an end, we’ve faced ongoing battles throughout the year. We have continued to fight to make changes to the unfair limitations of the Tier 5/6 pension system and working without a contract for a year and a half but through it all, when the tones go off, your Yonkers Firefighters always show up and answer the call by @yonkersfire

October 2nd will always be a difficult day for our department. Seventeen years ago today, Firefighter Patrick Joyce made the ultimate sacrifice serving the City of Yonkers.

Today, Local 628 honors his life, his service, and the lasting mark he left on our department. We keep Patrick’s family, friends, and all who worked alongside him in our thoughts. by @yonkersfire

Local 628 members, families, and friends took part in the 25th Annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk this past Sunday, despite the nor’easter.

We were proud to walk and run in honor of FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller and all those who lost their lives on September 11th. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this year’s turnout possible. by @yonkersfire

On this day, on the 25th anniversary, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the heroes who answered the call during one of the darkest days in our nation’s history.

We remember the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice. As thousands were making their way to safety, these firefighters were running toward the danger. We honor all of the first responders who gave their lives that day, those we have lost since to 9/11-related illnesses, and those who continue to suffer from the lasting effects of their work at Ground Zero.

The courage and sacrifice shown that day have left a lasting mark on us in the fire service. The example set by the heroes that day continues to shape and guide generations of firefighters, and their legacy is one we are proud to carry forward.

25 years have passed, but the promise remains the same. We remember the 343. We remember every life taken that day and those we have lost since. We honor all who answered the call, and we stand with the families, survivors, and first responders who continue to carry the weight of September 11th.

We will NEVER FORGET 🇺🇸 by @yonkersfire

Happy Fourth of July from Local 628! 🇺🇸

As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s independence, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and enduring spirit of those who secured the freedoms we enjoy today. Their legacy continues to inspire the values of service, unity, and resilience that define our nation.

Today, we also thank the dedicated men and women of the Yonkers Fire Department who are spending this holiday away from their families, standing ready to protect our community.

We wish everyone a safe, happy, and patriotic Independence Day. Happy Fourth of July! by @yonkersfire
