Three days ago, on this past Sunday, while everyone was celebrating the resurrection of a man (this is me making a joke as a former Catholic), I got to celebrate my birthday! What is usually not my favorite week of my favorite time of year, I intentionally made it into a five day weekend to spend time doing things I’ve been putting off and most importantly, intentionally I spent time with the people I love!
•
I watched a hilarious musical on Broadway, watched Hoppers in an actual theater, drove to Connecticut to take in beautiful nature and architecture, watched women’s college basketball with dear friends, and shared countless delicious meals with sweet treats to cap it all off. This week finally solidified for me that maybe this place I’ve called home for 10 years is actually my home.
•
I listened to @Raye’s newest album, “THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE,” all week long. There’s an amazing run in the middle that starts with “Click Clack Symphony” and goes into “I Know You’re Hurting” and ends with “Life Boat.” I played those three songs on repeat because I feel it sums up a lot of my natural state of mind. My life feels dramatic at times, sometimes full of grief, but my friends and loved ones are my constant life boats, and as Raye sings, “I’m not giving up yet.”(Continued in the comments!) taken in New York, New York by @yoomsters

Oof, 33 was not an easy year to say the least. So much good happened, but also was probably one of the hardest years for me, mentally. I tend to self-isolate when I get overwhelmed and I thank the ones who have been by me and talked me off many a proverbial ledge. It’s always the little things: the smile while crossing each other’s paths, sharing a good meal, a thinking-of-you text, showing up for each other for the good and the incredibly bad, flowers for your birthday.
•
Growing up is so hard. So cliché, I know, but it doesn’t get easier in your thirties either. No one’s ever prepared for it but I truly feel ill prepared to this day and oh, how I wish I could not hate that. I don’t know how everyone else is doing it, but bravo to you all. If you’ve got some tips, I’m more than willing to hear them.
•
The best thing about another year around the sun will always be the new friends I make throughout the year, and the friendships that are strengthened. I get to remember that I am loved and supported by some of the best people in the world, and even if I’m chaotic and unhinged, I have friends who match that energy with so much joy and laughter. Whether in person or online, I am so so grateful for the people that make me a priority in their life. I hope I always make you feel like you are a priority in mine.
•
The world feels really untenable lately, but you know, maybe 34 will be a little better. Here’s to hoping 🥂 And thank you to all the friends that could make it out to celebrate another year on such short notice, even those not pictured, y’all really helped make me feel so incredibly loved ❤️🥰

We officially said goodbye to the absolutely wonderful Co Kym. No one loved life quite like she did. No one truly grasped how lucky we all are to have another day quite like she did. No one loved every person in her life like Co Kym did.
•
The last two weeks has been so odd for me, achieving some big things in my own career while also quietly grieving for someone who treated me like her own niece, someone who had no blood relation, just one of her best friend’s kids’ cousin. Yet, she was a part of my life for over 30 years. Every birthday, graduation, wedding, and funeral, Co Kym was there. Showing support, taking photos, and loving the moment we were all sharing. Co Kym was my favorite Vietnamese aunt 🥹
•
I find myself welling up in tears in random moments, thinking about her incredibly happy voice, the way we all knew a group photo was coming our way whenever she was with us, and the way she REALLY wanted me to work for her company in 2015. The watch she gave me for my college graduation, still tucked away in my room. I think about her three kids that she did an amazing job raising, and how incredibly unfair this is for them. But they are their parents’ kids, and they are resilient and strong.
•
I’ll never forget the way Co Kym lived; we should all try to be like her more. I’ll never stop documenting life’s moments, big and little. I’ll never forget today or the movie “Ghost” because of the way it was brought up in her service. I’ll keep an eye on the kids too. I love you, Co Kym, and thank you so much for loving me too.
•
You are truly gone too soon.

Yesterday I asked the support group chat my “petty question of the day” (a new series to come) and @brionajenkins basically summed it all up in one text. It made me laugh the loudest I’ve laughed in a while and I believe we’re all comedians now. Also I’m resetting my story views by not posting so this is a “proof of life” feed post. 🫰🏼

Basically this was the only line we willingly waited in yesterday at the @usopen! Art direction by @skdrahl, backhand stance brought to you by tennis summer camps at Oak Hills CC. The end of summer slowly coming to a close this week and I’m ready to say deuce(s)😉

Happy 31st birthday to the tallest but youngest in our family! Idk but that feels rude of you tbh. Throwing back to our last chaotic family reunion at @chris.park’s residency graduation a few months ago. This photo makes me belly laugh and I’m so glad we got to spend some time with you on your birthday in person today! Love you Chris, and you’ll always be my “little” brother ❤️

Another year, another birthday reflection post. I alluded to this year’s theme on a story yesterday and it’s about the privilege of growing older. The blessing that is celebrating another year with the people I love and all that comes with existence, amazing and difficult.
•
2023 was one of the best years yet for me personally; I saw so many great shows, traveled the world, and met up with so many friends from around the world. But it has also been one of the worst years for LGBTQ+ people, not just in the US but everywhere. We have been watching a genocide unfold in real time. Abortion rights have been stripped away. Hateful violence of all kinds is around every corner.
•
This year, I’ve been thinking about how lucky I am to even be here at all. I think a lot about the friends who never got older. The ones who will always be 19 or 23. It feels so unfair to me that as I get to love my cousins’ kids, how I’ve gotten to love my nephews, meet my friends’ kids, attend so many weddings, and celebrate so many birthdays, I have so many friends and family that never will. And I mourn that privilege of shared experience with them. The time that has stood still for their loved ones and mine.
•
And this year, as I turn 33, sometimes I still feel like I’m 24 or 28, maybe still 16 or 18 at times. And I’m so grateful for that. There’s so many anxieties that come with growing older, little wrinkles that I find on my face, maybe my eyes are a little droopier this year, my belly a little bigger, maybe life could be better but damn, it’s pretty okay right now too.
•
To all the friends and family reading this, thank you for another year of doing life with me. From your corner of the world and mine, I love that we get to do this thing together, rooting for each other, fighting for each other, existing in this time together. You as my community, have gotten me to another year older, it was a team effort, please know that and I hope you can find a little pride in that.
•
Thank you for all the birthday love, as always. I love you all as much as the universe is infinite. Thank you @kehlani for the lyrics of this song that I dedicate to those we miss every day ❤️

Last Sunday, I treated myself to a floral arrangement workshop hosted by my friends @kindaformal with some film portraits included! I was planning to be there on my own and had the pleasant surprise of being joined by a co-board member of our brg and his partner. What a wonderful surprise for me, who still gets a little nervous and shy around strangers on my own 🥹
•
I know I don’t post myself very often on feed anymore. I still struggle with my own self-esteem around my weight, how my face doesn’t feel like it’s really mine, and that affects how I treat myself internally. This isn’t sharing to garner pity, just sharing to be honest with my little crew of friends in our little pocket of the internet. I wish I wasn’t so hard on myself but we all know, when it comes to ourselves, we can tend to be our harshest critics, and I’m no better than anyone else.
•
I’m grateful that gave myself this gift, I was so excited to get pictures of myself on purpose and I’m always so happy to see @jasmine_baum, who I’ve known since seventh grade. Not only did I get to have fun and learn a new skill to practice, I got to support a friend who I adore!
•
And that also helps me like myself again. Because I get to remind myself that I have so much love to give my friends and I really do like that about myself. I feel so lucky to know so many incredible folks across this little planet we call home. Anyways, I just needed to share that and this very nice picture of myself in front of a very beautiful backdrop for V-Day 2024.
•
And remember, even on the days you might not love yourself, there’s always me loving you with all my heart.

I just KNOW this is gonna read a little cringe but I just want y’all to know how much I love @skdrahl! Happy 30th to one of the best people I know. I’m so lucky to have someone like him in my corner making the funniest of quips, bringing so much levity to the most mundane of moments, and just pure joy to my life. 20+ years later, and we’re just two skittles living our best, authentic, rainbow lives.
•
It might be strange to hear but he’s also one of the people responsible for me becoming more comfortable with my own femininity. But it’s true. With his own actions and all our conversations over delicious food around the city, I’ve learned to be more comfortable in my own skin and expression. And so much of that is so invaluable to me.
•
He makes my world so much larger (😉) and for that, I’m so grateful. Thank you for being my beautiful, creative friend and for introducing me to many more beautiful and creative friends. My gemini kween, my dearest friend, Kyle. Happy birthday again, and I can’t wait to see what this new year brings you 🫰🏼LOVE YOU BOO!

Another year has passed, my Saturn return is finally over (THANK GOD) and you’d think life was a little less hectic. But my friends, I feel like my world is just on fire. I’m scared but I’m also so infuriated. I didn’t fight my brain for 32 years just for the world to be this terrible for me or my loved ones to exist.
•
The bigots of this world today are doing it wrong because now I’m just going to have to stay alive out of pure spite. The pettiest Aries in me will never let some fascists decide how our community lives, and I will not be giving any of them the satisfaction of me giving up.
•
My birthday wish is for the day my existence is no longer an act of political resistance. My wish is that trans kids today could have the right to exist and play sports and use the restroom without fear and judgment. Guess what, I may not have been out, but I was just as much non-binary then as I am now. We’ve always existed, we’re just no longer hiding.
•
So as we go through the motions of life, I hope you’ll recognize your privilege when you can choose not to read about another state trying to ban our right to life-saving healthcare and our very existence. I hope you’ll catch how often your coworker gets misgendered now that you’re in the office face to face more. I hope you’ll recognize that even though the world keeps turning for you, your fellow human is barely living with bated breath. They’re grasping at straws, trying to find the hope and motivation that it’s worth it to wake up the next day. I know it sounds dramatic, but folks, this is our lives we’re talking about.
•
My 32nd birthday is when I’ve admitted to you and myself, that I do want to live. After all this time, I want to be allowed to exist, allowed to thrive. But my world is still on fire.

This time last year I asked my community to help me fundraise for the trans and gender non-conforming youth and adults in the US and when I say y’all showed up, it’s such an understatement.
•
After utilizing my company match and with some major help from my work fam, we raised a total of 3,100 dollars for my 31st birthday. That felt so kismet, which is a running theme in my life thus far.
•
Thank you everyone for being so patient for me to post the receipts like I promised I would. I never thought our country would get to where it currently is now and it only further solidifies just how important that fundraiser was last year. I hope y’all continue to participate in fighting the anti-trans rhetoric and sentiment in your every day and continue to support our community. We desperately need you on our sides. We cannot keep fighting for our right to exist on our own. We need your help.
•
Thank you for making me feel loved, cared for, and affirmed. I really needed it. I am so grateful for every single one of you.
