Holidays are, in the end, what you make them and I’m grateful for two parents who elevated holidays into far more than the simple sum of their parts. Easter is my mom’s holiday.

She made the day feel rich with food, family and belonging. She created towering baskets that reflected exactly who my sister and I were and who we were becoming. Trinkets, talismans, jewellery, scarves, sandals for the coming season, alongside candy, tampons, and all the small necessary things. It was practical and generous, nostalgic and glamorous, and completely her.

More than baskets filled with lovely things, they held the way she saw us. The way she celebrated, cared for us, and quietly encouraged us toward ourselves.
