You Are Here is obsessed with being useful to as many Canberra artists as possible. We’re developing a bunch of resources that you’ll eventually be able to download for FREE from our website!

The lineup of free goodies will include:

- The Creative Community Manual: a step-by-step process document for groups of 3-6 artists to form a supportive community, work on development goals, and act as a critical feedback gang! This DIY version of the Cahoots residency, our most proven model for arts practice development, was developed with fundraising support from many of you reading this! We’re currently testing drafts of the Creative Community Manual. Register via the Resources link in bio if you’re keen to check out the draft and give us feedback. Everything we know, we know ‘cause you tell us!

- Budgeting templates: because we know that’s often the stressiest part of pitching and planning arts activity!

- PLUS! We’re (slowly) working on guides for producing indie arts events, embedding accessibility into your artworks, and making your arts practice more burnout-resistant! Tell us what other free resources you need!

You Are Here Club has launched and we want YOU to join! This our newest artist support model, our scheme to support more Canberra-based creatives than ever before (and yes of course Queanbeyan counts, it’s a magical place!).

It’s a pay-what-you-feel membership that entitles you to personalised support sessions with experienced creative producers. We’ll work to deeply understand what you’re trying to do, why you’re trying to do it, and the best ways to help you.

You Are Here now has our own space in the CBD, and it’s also YOUR space, every Wednesday from 10 to 4!

Book into the new weekly Office Hours at the new You Are Here office at 131 City Walk, and enjoy a range of in-the-room artist support and community. $15 to attend or pay-what-you-feel, or FREE if you’ve already joined the You Are Here Club as spruiked in our last post!

You can drop in for some quick assistance or hang out at length with Canberra’s most centrally located art nerds! Help us give peer pressure a feelgood rebrand.

Sound, light, texture, atmosphere.
A little glimpse into Scenery 5, an immersive night of ambient music and moving image at Blank Cultural Platform.

Slow-burning soundscapes, shifting projections and analogue visuals transformed the space into something entirely different for a few hours, with music from Umki, Orthotyp-a and Sebastian Field, and live visuals by Nicci Haynes.

A night for zoning in, tuning out, and letting the room become the experience.

A little glimpse into the strange, tender world of Silver Spinning.

Music, shadow puppetry, live art, homemade rituals and a room full of people coming together to experience something wonderfully hard to put into words.

Created by Luciana Harrison, with Tara Bromham and Sia Ahmad, Silver Spinning explores queer parenthood through song, image, sound and ritual. Each performance is a little different, shaped by the artists, the space and the people in the room.

A little peek behind the doors.

Show n Tell was an evening of making, sharing, wandering and meeting the wonderfully creative people who make up our community at You Are Here.

From bird puppets and Monshters to textiles, radio, soil and everything in between, we got to celebrate the experiments, ideas and strange little things that came out of our CBD Creative Workshops.

We also opened up our new City Walk home, giving friends, artists, makers and curious humans a chance to see what’s been growing inside.

A little look back at Material Resonance with Canberra artist Michele Grimston, where textiles, memories and everyday materials came together to create something deeply personal.

Across three weeks, participants explored embroidery, quilting and soft sculpture, slowing down, experimenting with texture, and finding new ways to tell stories through the things we hold onto.

A look back at Monshter Making with the wonderful Alexis Malflores, where scraps of felt, paint, thread and plenty of imagination became tiny creatures with BIG personalities.

Over three cosy evenings, our makers stitched, painted, accessorised and brought their very own Monshters to life.

Here’s a little look back at Flip & Flappin’ Bird Puppets with Canberra artist Tom Buckland, where cardboard and recycled materials were transformed into wonderfully weird, moving bird puppets.

Three weeks of making, tinkering, experimenting, and getting these little creatures ready to flip, flap and come to life.

FLAPPIN AND FLIPPIN

In July 2026 I had the pleasure of running a bird puppet workshop for @blank.platform
Over three weeks participants constructed their own moving articulated bird puppets from recycled cardboard and other found materials.
