Earlier this year, I got to witness a once in a lifetime event. After a 10 year, hiatus charros came back to this small town to pay homage to its founding members who brought this competitive sport to this town. One of the members awarded was my girlfriend's grampa. Sadly, I missed when he got awarded. I asked my girlfriend's uncle who also competed, on why did it stopped. He mentioned how cost played a major factor. He was sad how his childhood love couldn't continue. Days later, he decided to open up a school for charros for the youth. These were some of the images of that day. I have a lot of favorites at some point, I'll upload them. by @younggfk

This picture was taken around ten years ago . Months before, I was in the worst stage of my life. I was ready to end it all. I had no support, homeless, going to funerals every month. I could barely afford school, let alone eat. I would go days without eating. I was shuffling between trade school and community college, dedicating 10 hours a day, barely making it. Everything was pointing to me becoming another statistic. I had health problems back to back, and I got out of a toxic relationship. I felt like I was just a zombie. I wasn't me anymore. I was breathing. I didn't get why this was happening. I felt like I was doing everything right, yet somehow, I was still in the wrong. I felt boxed in alone with nowhere to go. I was in fight or flight mode and decided that I wasn't going to let life do this to me. Even if life didn't value me, I did. I saved up, took care of my health, figured out school, and never gave up on my education. I took a spontaneous trip to L.A with people that I knew for less than a month. I reconnected with my So-Cal family, and my life changed forever. That's around when this picture was taken. It was my first trip as an adult. It felt like I stepped out of a box. I was intimidated to leave and saw the green grass on the other side. I knew that moment would begin the creation of the man you see today. I'm happy where I am now, although it does suck that it took this long to get here. I guess everyone has their own path and time to do things. If I had an opportunity to change anything, I wouldn't. It may have been uncomfortable, but The people I met, the experiences, and the revelations that came along the way shaped me. That's something I'm thankful for. Based on my environment and statistics, I wasn't supposed to get this far, but I proved everyone wrong. I'm that Rose that grew from the conctrete.
