Introduced at the 1981 Geneva Motor Show, the Opel Manta 400 was created as Opel’s road-going homologation model to compete in the Group B rally championship. The Opel Manta 400 was developed with Irmscher and Cosworth to follow the successful Opel Ascona 400 rally programme. Opel originally intended to use a two-litre four-cylinder engine. For this purpose, Cosworth developed a new 16-valve cross-flow cylinder head. Since this engine did not achieve the desired performance, Opel increased displacement to 2.4 litres using a new forged crankshaft and a block derived from the company’s diesel engine family. This resulted in 144 hp. The Group B version, which used twin Weber carburettors instead of Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection, produced more than 250 hp. The body shell of the Manta 400 was basically the same as that of the Manta GT/E, but there was an optional body kit from Irmscher to convert it to look like the rally car, with spoiler lips and extended wheel arches made of Kevlar. Production ran from 1981 to 1984, with a total of 245 units built. 📸 @scottpatersonphoto @iconicauctioneers #opel #opelmanta #opelmanta400 #opelclassic #classiccars by @youngtimer.it
Peugeot 205 GTI Griffe 💚 In 1990, Peugeot unveiled a special edition of its 205 GTI 1.9, the “Griffe”. The 205 GTI Griffe was equipped with all imaginable options that were then available on a 205 GTl: full leather interior, ABS, power steering, central door locking with remote control, electric windows and a panoramic sliding roof. The 205 Griffe also has a special green paint, taking inspiration directly from Jean Todt, at the time, director of Peugeot Sport, after he decided to have his GTI repainted in metallic fluorite green with dark anthracite gray Speedline rims. The result was amazing, so Peugeot’s management decided to produce a limited run of 3,000 units of this distinctive 205 GTI. 📸 @ap.lcb #peugeot #peugeot205 #peugeot205gti #205gti #classiccars by @youngtimer.it
BMW E36 M3 GT 😈 Designed to satisfy FIA GT homologation rules, the BMW M3 GT E36 was exclusively finished in the iconic British Racing Green over a striking Mexico Green and Black Nappa leather cabin with carbon fiber interior trim. Under the hood, the 3.0-liter S50 inline-six was upgraded with re-profiled camshafts, re-mapped Bosch Motronic M3.3 engine management, an upgraded VANOS system, and a Motorsport dual-pickup oil pan to prevent oil starvation during high-G cornering, pushing output to 295 hp and 323 Nm of torque. While retaining the standard M3’s 5-speed ZF manual transmission and limited-slip differential, BMW Motorsport sharpened acceleration by fitting a shorter 3.23:1 final drive ratio and a factory Motorsport strut tower brace. Aerodynamics were improved via a drag-reducing exterior package: an adjustable front splitter, streamlined wing mirrors, and a dual-tier rear spoiler equipped with adjustable Gurney flaps. Lightweight aluminum doors shaved off 20 kg, while staggered 17-inch forged M Double Spoke wheels completed the chassis enhancements. With only 356 units built between February and July 1995, it remains one of the ultimate E36 grails ever produced. 📸 @animoyagarage #bmw #bmwm3e36 #m3e36 #bmwm3gt #bmwclassic by @youngtimer.it
In 1994, Fiat unveiled the Barchetta as their answer to the Mazda MX-5, marking the Turin brand’s return to the roadster market after a long absence. Penned by Andreas Zapatinas, the model was built on a modified Fiat Punto chassis, shortened and reinforced to maximize torsional rigidity without a fixed hardtop roof. Under the hood sits a 1.8-liter, 16v four-cylinder engine generating 130hp. Notably, the Barchetta was the first production Fiat to feature variable valve timing. This phase variator provided excellent low-end pull (delivering roughly 90% of peak torque between 2,000 and 6,000 rpm) with linear power delivery up to 6,300 rpm. Paired with a lightweight curb weight of just 1,056 kg, this setup allowed the Barchetta to offer decent fuel economy alongside punchy performance, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds with a top speed of 200 km/h. 📸 @autosalrio #fiat #fiatbarchetta #fiatclassic #autodepoca #classiccars by @youngtimer.it

Autobianchi A112 Abarth “Salmone 282” configuration 🍣 In 1971 Fiat acquired the Abarth and the first creature with the Scorpion was the A112 Abarth. The Abarth upgrades to improve the performance of the standard A112 were mainly on the engine; the displacement of the 4-cylinder was increased, from 903 to 982 cm, and in order to supply the right amount of petrol and air the right to the engine, they opted for a twin-barrel carburettor and a sporty exhaust line. The resulting engine favoured higher torque at low revs, rather than maximum power at the top end, and delivered, in the first and the second series, 58hp at 6600 rpm. Major changes were also made to the dashboard, which was enhanced with sporty instruments including a rev counter, ammeter, pressure gauge and oil thermometer, while more supportive seats and a three-spoke aluminium steering wheel with leather crown completed the sporty interior upgrade. Initially, the A112 Abarth was only available in red racing livery with matte black bonnet. 📸 @rock_n_roll_classics #autobianchi #a112 #autobianchia112abarth #a112abarth #classiccar by @youngtimer.it
Saab 900 Turbo 🇸🇪 Introduced in 1979, the Saab 900 Turbo remained in production until 1993. During its production run, it was available in three-door, five-door, and convertible body styles. The Saab 2.0-litre inline-four engine was equipped with turbocharging technology, increasing output from the 99 hp of the standard 900 to 143 hp, and later to 173 hp from 1984 onward. Early models used an 8-valve engine, while later versions adopted a 16-valve cylinder head and intercooling. The car had a top speed of 210 km/h and could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds. Saab’s aviation-inspired philosophy strongly influenced the design of the 900 Turbo, which was characterized by its wraparound windshield, clamshell bonnet, sharply angled rear section, and large glass area. The interior also incorporated aircraft-inspired dashboard architecture, deeply contoured seats, and a center-console-mounted ignition switch. The Saab 900 Turbo remains one of the most significant models in the history of Swedish automotive engineering. 📸 @davidrosehrl #saab #saab900 #saab900turbo #saabturbo #saabclassic by @youngtimer.it
Toyota Celica GT-Four ST205 🌪️ Released in 1994, the Celica GT-Four ST205 was the last evolution of the winning family of Celica 4-wheel drive. The updated 3S-GTE engine produced 239hp, for the European version, and 252hp for the Japanese model, allowing the Celica ST205 to cover the 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The others improvements included an all-aluminum hood to save weight, four-channel ABS (optional for the JDM), an improved CT20B twin entry turbocharger, and the “Super Strut Suspension”, a high-performance suspension system developed by Toyota, an improved MacPherson strut type suspension. It suppressed the change in camber angle that occurs when the suspension is in motion, and as a result it greatly increases handling stability and grip limit while turning. After the victories of the world championship drivers ‘92, ‘93, ‘94 and manufactures ‘93, ‘94, unfortunately, the ST205 wasn’t able to continue Toyota’s winning streak in the WRC. During the 1995 WRC season, Toyota was caught using illegal turbo restrictor bypasses and were given a one-year ban by the FIA. FIA president, Max Mosley, called it “the most sophisticated device I’ve ever seen in 30 years of motor sports.” 📸 @alvarez_media #toyota #toyotacelica #celicagtfour #celicagt4 by @youngtimer.it
Alfa Romeo GTV Cup 3.0 V6, the Art of Made in Italy 🇮🇹 In 2001, Alfa Romeo decided to produce a special road-going GTV to pay homage to the one-make GTV Cup racing series. The GTV Cup was produced in just 419 units worldwide. For the European market, 264 units were produced, of these, 239 were equipped with the 2.0 Twin Spark engine and were painted silver, while only 25 were painted red and featured the 3.0 V6 Busso engine under the hood. The 155 units destined for the UK market exclusively received the 3.0 V6 engine. All GTV Cups externally featured an aerodynamic kit that included: side skirts, front splitter, rear spoiler, vented front wings (for brake cooling) and titanium-finished 17-inch “Teledial” alloy wheels. 📸 @damir_arapovic #alfaromeo #alfaromeogtv #alfagtv #v6busso #alfaromeoclassic by @youngtimer.it
