12 hours in Melbourne 🍂

The perfect way to spend an autumn day in South Derbyshire.

We started with a wander around Calke Abbey, then headed into Melbourne for coffee, independent shops, brunch at Second Sitting and a little mooch around town, before dinner at The Brewhouse and ending the day with a twilight spa at Breedon Priory.

Elvaston Castle will host its Apple Day event on October 3rd from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Head to the Walled Garden, Orchard and Community Allotment and enjoy apple pressing, pick your own apples, children’s activities, cider, BBQ, and refreshments. The event is free to attend, with car parking charges applicable.

Head to Wirksworth this weekend for their monthly Farmers Market this Saturday - or head over on Sunday for their annual Wizarding Day! A day of magical activities, adults and children will descend on the town dressed as their favourite Harry Potter characters to enjoy themed food and activities and to meet other fans. As well as a day of fun, the event raises funds for good causes. Wizarding Day has previously raised a grand total of £9,000 for local communities.

Head over to the @shinytap for a locally brewed beer and a bite to eat before or after a stroll along the Little Eaton Greenway.

The gardens at National Trust Calke Abbey are bursting with autumn colour. The harvest display is now on at the Auricular Theatre, with a selection of pumpkins, gourds and apples on display. Stroll around the gardens and enjoy the fun scarecrows, and rows of brightly coloured dahlias too.

Derby City Centre will host Derby Festé this weekend. Organised by Derby City Council, this free outdoor arts festival transforms the streets into a vibrant playground of creativity, with an action-packed, family-friendly lineup of contemporary circus, street theatre, dance, and live music from both local and international artists. It traditionally concludes with the breathtaking Festé After Dark, a stunning evening aerial performance that lights up the night sky.

The River Gardens in Belper are coming alive with autumn colours. The park sits within the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site next to the historic North Mill, and you’ll discover an abundance of wildlife, a central bandstand, a play area for children and a cafe too.

A new addition to Ripley town, Candlemaker is a beautiful cafe, tapas and wine bar tucked in a courtyard on Church Street. Their newly launched tapas menu, and extensive wine list, make this a hit for the evening too!
