RBT “HER MOTHER’S EYES” There’s nothing fills you more than a song that comes straight from the heart. “Her Mother’s Eyes” was stirred in me when I was looking at the photos I took the morning of my daughter’s wedding. This song captures what was, in one particular photo, an overwhelming feeling that I couldn’t pull away from. For what was a ridiculous amount of time, I sat there looking at the photo filled with such intense emotion as I looked at my daughter getting the final touches of her makeup applied, and the hair stylist standing behind waiting to place her veil. It was in that moment, and a look on her face, that I could fully see that little girl of mine and the lovely woman she had become. I’ll never forget how that felt and how I knew in that moment that I had to capture what was inside of me. It’s the depth of that love and that feeling that inspired me to write “Her Mother’s Eyes”.  Written and Performed by Rosanne Baker Thornley (RBT) Directed by Yeimy Daza Cinematography and Colour Artem Mykhailetskyi Producers Yeimy Daza, Rosanne Baker Thornley, Artem Mykahailetsky Featuring Actors Natalia Aranguren and Eva Luna Editor Youssef Mutawe HMU Audrey Guegan BTS Photography & Florals Taylor Thornley-Schollar Casting S.A.M. RBT HER MOTHER’S EYES “And she thinks about all that they’ve had She knows love moves them forwards not back And she smiles cause she knows what they’ll have The years, the braids, the ponytails, pink lemonade and fairytales And today she is a bride and she’s six years old inside Her Mother’s Eyes”. INSIDE THE ART RBT | HER MOTHER’S EYES “Through the Editor’s Eyes” There are many moving parts to a music video with each person / each role shaping the outcome in meaningful ways. While the Director and Cinematographer set the vision and capture the footage, it’s the editor who ultimately weaves it all together, turning intention into resonance, and vision into connection. “Her Mother’s Eyes” Editor Youssef Mutawe shared, “Love isn’t bound by logic, and so neither be the edit … I relied on emotion to guide every cut.” That approach and every decision made in service of feeling created moments that linger, allowed space for vulnerability, and resulted in the warmth that fills the screen. I very much value what each person brings to my projects. And in this very fast-paced world with an endless stream of content that flies past, I like to take a moment for viewers to have a better understanding of what is inside building 3:36 minutes of my video. This reflection entitled “Through the Eyes Of”, is my way to celebrate and honour the artistry, insight, and emotional intuition that my team brings to my projects. All of which so truly shapes the story and what we feel, what we see. I’m very grateful to Youssef Mutawe for bringing not just his technical skill, but also his heart and intuition to this video, and to help my song “Her Mother’s Eyes” be seen in its truest light. This started as a simple low-light test for the new Nikon/RED ZR. Nothing ambitious - just me seeing how far the camera could be pushed under Toronto streetlights. Then I noticed the four spots I always pass on my dog walk… each one felt like a scene waiting to happen. So I treated them like scenes. Scenes needed a story to tie them together. A story needed a script. And suddenly the “camera test” wasn’t a test anymore. What you’re watching is the result: a small, atmospheric teaser for a short that grew out of natural city light, late-night wandering, and a camera that handled the darkness way better than expected.
