Any space can become a place of refuge when framed through a screen. The glow of pixels offers a temporary environment where presence and connection can exist outside the instability of the physical world. A conduit now sits in every home and every pocket, allowing spaces to be reconstructed, shared, and inhabited digitally. For this work, the 100m space was stripped down and filled with candles, reducing the gallery to bare walls and symbols of ritual. The installation reclaims the space without disturbing the physical world, transforming the gallery into a place of gathering where presence is shared through the network rather than the room itself.

Sacred Spaces - The Architecture of Belonging
This body of work explores the idea of constructing refuge within conditions of instability. Drawing from a lifetime of personal experience with housing insecurity, the series examines how people create spaces of belonging using whatever materials are available. These environments are often temporary, improvised, or transitional, yet they still function as sites of safety, identity, and continuity.
The act of modeling worlds in virtual environments reflects the increasing role of digital space as an accessible territory for sanctuary. Unlike physical architecture, digital environments can be built freely, without the same economic or geographic barriers. In this context, the virtual becomes a parallel framework of refuge, where memory, identity, and shelter can be preserved and shared.
Across the series, sacredness is not defined by religion or permanence but by use. A sacred space is simply a place where a person can exist safely, even if only temporarily.

This work expands on the idea that belief has migrated into digital systems. The familiar prompt “to pray or repent” mirrors the binary structure of video games themselves, a coded moral architecture rendered through decision trees and interfaces. Devotion becomes gamified as we atone through pixelated penance.

Chapter I - Faith in Data
Historically, cherubs functioned as symbols of purity, guidance, and divine presence. Their role was to mediate the sacred, to remind viewers of a spiritual order beyond the material, and to accompany souls between realms. Usually adorned upon biblical artworks and chapel ceilings, this translation from fresco to television reflects the evolution of how faith is disseminated in contemporary life. Screens have become sacred sites where conviction is formed and reinforced, but also reinterpreted.
French Philosopher Jean Baudrillard is known for coining The Simulacrum, or The Procession of Simulacra, a concept of how all knowledge, including our understanding of reality, is in fact a simulation; a fragmented telephone game of information where the original meaning or story is knowingly lost in a cycle of planned obfuscation.
In Baudrillard’s simulacra, entering the final stages is accepting that the original source is not only lost but irrelevant, where the new, hyperreal version collectively becomes the preferred reality. This portrays our online experience, where data is curated by machines; algorithmic angels guiding our exposure through bite sized content, slowly condensing and recontextualizing information into 15 second clips with our preferred flavor of irony.

Portrait of Neil Armstrong - April 18 1969

Both Neil and Buzz Aldrin had to go through extensive testing of the lunar landing gear wearing their bulky suits for hours at a time, suits not designed for earths gravity.
They also did days of training operating multiple cameras, from 17mm film and 60mm still cameras, such as the Hasseblad bolted to his chest harness. The mission was only successful if they could document it.

It’s been a great experience getting into oil painting, this is my first finished piece.

We each provide our individual impact, another cluster of data interwoven in the fabric of our society; an undulating mass of consumables and information, slowly created and digested amongst our artificial ecosystems.”

A compilation of daily items, artist Yultek takes on his very own carbon footprint. An offshoot of the PERMASTRUCTURE Series, SELF PORTRAIT w/ consumables turns the focus of consumption on the artist, the weight and complexity of a human living a week in the United states in 2024. Notably missing lots of food, rent, and other assorted necessities, Yul balances technology as a major component of his Ven diagram, the steady use of electricity and power: an integral part of any digital artist’s lifestyle.

(ꜱᴏᴜɴᴅ ᴏɴ) REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE examines redundancy in civic design and renewable technologies. San Francisco peels back to reveal the underbelly of industrialism; a weathered megastructure with a long lost purpose, expending vast amounts of resources for little to no progress. Underneath the waxy green utopian narrative is a culture thirsty for power; a machine that hinders climate initiatives and neglects global infrastructure in our drive for subjective innovation.

The PERMASTRUCTURE Series challenges human evolution through landscapes of cognitive dissonance. Distant dreams of possible realities, Yultek manipulates depictions of the droning, ever-present sensation of change that collectively creeps up our spines.

APOTHEM CITY
A geometric concept symbolizing the balance in a square's structure and its reflection on urban equilibrium.

This artwork prompts us to reimagine societal structures where available housing and livable wages are equally and inherently correlated, much like the apothem is evenly distributed from the center to all of its facets. These mathematical principles are utilized through smart design, something that can also be applied to the value of every human, where we all live as equals.
