London based producer @akhavelli_ debut (instrumental) album "Moorthodox Psyence", operates like a recovered transmission from a fractured timeline. The project is built around a fictional rupture in 1996 where memory, signal and culture begin drifting out of phase, framing the music as something intercepted rather than composed. Drawing on the dense collage tradition of sample-based production, the record blends experimental Trip-Hop, turntablism and psychedelic rhythm with the hypnotic repetition of Krautrock and the tactile grit of analogue Hip-Hop. Its palette pulls from Japanese Soul and Funk, ex-Soviet Psychedelia, Turkish and North African sources, Arabic textures and classic 90s vocal cuts and scratches. Beneath the surface sits a subtle Sufi influence, positioning the producer less as author than as receiver: sampling as remembrance, sound as a way of piercing the veil between timelines. The result is what Akhavelli calls Breakbeat Psyence: a hypnotic, transportive body of work that feels less like a conventional album and more like a lost artefact recovered from inside a loop in time.

The name Akhavelli is a layered reference. It plays on Machiavelli, both the historical figure and Tupac’s Makaveli, filtered through his background and perspective. Even though "Moorthodox Psyence" is Akhavelli's first release, he has been working under the name Yvng Face, as a producer and as a professional mixing and mastering engineer for over two decades now. He runs a high-end hybrid analog studio and has mixed and mastered major records across multiple genres. That technical background feeds directly into the precision, sonics, and consistency of this album, even though Akhavelli is a distinct artistic identity.

Earlier this year i got together with @jaycactusmusic and did an Advanced Mixing series for his amazing Patreon community. Did an entire drill mix from scratch using the @jaycenjoshua System, and you can watch the entire thing now on his Patreon. Ill be posting clips here on IG over the next few weeks too.

Big respect to Bra over at @rapmaniacz in Italy for taking the time to properly listen to MOORTHODOX PSYENCE and write such a detailed review.

What I really appreciate is that he understood what I was going for. The Mo' Wax references, the 1996 concept, the sampling, the cuts, the whole approach to production. Even broke down individual tracks. And he wasn't afraid to be critical either, which I respect.

Interesting that the review opens by calling out the amount of soulless AI artwork flooding music these days. Couldn't agree more.

I've translated the full review into English and put it across these slides.

Much respect to everyone who's supported this record. The vinyl is sold out, but the album is still available digitally through Bandcamp.

Swipe through and have a read.

Been a few months since Moorthodox Psyence came out, so I wanted to put some of the story around the record in one place.
9 tracks. Built mostly on the MPC from vinyl, cassette and VHS. A lot of breaks, psychedelia, scratching and records from different corners of the world pulled apart and put back together.
The first vinyl pressing of 100 sold out, and somehow the record has kept travelling. Reviews and coverage have come in from the US, France, Italy and elsewhere, with comparisons to some records and artists that genuinely shaped the way I hear music.
Big love to everyone who bought the record, wrote about it, played it or passed it on.

Back taking on mixing and mastering work under YVNG FACE. Rates are on the flyer.

I've got absolutely no time for this AI mixing and mastering bullshit. The fact that we're now being encouraged to hand our music over to an algorithm and call that progress says everything about where the industry is heading.

You've spent months making a record. You've put your life into it, your influences, your taste, your frustrations, your actual feelings. And at the end of that process you're supposed to trust a machine to decide how it should sound? It can't feel the bass hit you in the chest or understand why a vocal cuts through just right. It doesn't know the culture behind the music. It doesn't know when a technically 'wrong' decision is the thing that makes a record special.

It can analyse audio, match patterns and chase targets. That's not the same thing as listening, understanding and giving a shit. And the people selling this stuff would love musicians to forget the difference.

I've spent decades producing, mixing and engineering records, working with artists including Farma G, P Money, Zed Bias, Jazzy B and Alesha Dixon. I've spent years developing my own approach to dynamics, low end, punch and clarity, combining analogue hardware with digital tools through my Precision Pressure System. None of that came from clicking a button and accepting whatever came back.

And I'm not against technology. I use technology every single day. I'm against this idea that human skill, experience and musical judgement are just inconveniences to be automated away. It's the same tired corporate obsession with making everything quicker, cheaper and more disposable, while the people who actually make the culture get squeezed out.

Your music deserves someone who listens to what you're trying to do, talks to you, challenges things when necessary and knows when to leave the fucking thing alone. Not a one-size-fits-all preset dressed up as intelligence.

That's what I offer. Real ears, real decisions and a genuine investment in the music.

My beautiful, amazing Mumma at 18 years old, MashaAllah. And just like the Tupac song, when I was young I left the home at 17 to live in Jahiliyyah, estaferallah. We have at time been apart for years and we are apart again in different continents now due to circumstances 💔. I speak to her everyday and I miss her deeply, but I trust in Allah we will be reunited again soon inshaAllah. I Love You Mumma! ❤️ you are my everything ♥️ by @yvngface
