Last Saturday evening, @megfritzmusic , @al_makesmusic and @zaboukies combined their incredible multi-instrumental musical talents in a “singer-songwriter swap” session @the_riff_at_bsiderecords . The songs were deeply emotional, personal, and as the photographer, I had to balance stopping to just embrace the music while remembering I had a job to do. A truly beautiful set of music.

🎸🥁🎹 Highly recommend following each of these young artists as they have bright futures ahead of them.

I have become deeply devoted to what is tactically in front of me. To the beautiful faces, familiar and new. The seemingly “small” moments of kindness that I believe is the very essence of our humanity. It’s all here—unfolding in some cosmic game of hide and seek. Just as I lose sight of it, it peeks out and reminds me of its existence. The GOOD. The LOVE. The living room dance party’s. The ugly cries. The echoes of generational laughter that is sealed into the paint on my walls. The conversations after a local show. The way @forestbaileymusic brews tea. The strange sounds my friends and I make when we’re PLAYING music. The Vegan caramel incedent with @redvangrow . Eating dinner on the kitchen floor with Al and Meg.

It’s grief. It’s forgiveness. It’s catching the light on a strangers face and momentarily falling in love. Who’s to say we couldn’t?
If each word, decision, and action, casts a ripple. I’d like to take my time finding the right stones to skip. A dance in remembrance as we all make our way home.

I’m playing a show with my incredibly talented friends, @al_makesmusic and @megfritzmusic at the one and only @the_riff_at_bsiderecords on 2/28/26 at 7pm!
We will be exchanging songs and stories in a Nashville style showcase, plus some of the free flow jamming that usually is kept reserved for our living room odysseys.

There’s sunlight caught in morning dew drops, glittering on a spiders web.
Reflections of precious memories, cast across the garden bed.
Ballerina tip toes, twirling on the edge.
Like water to the roots,
My soul seeks truth.
Between twilight kissed shadows,
I quietly wait to bloom.
I look to the children. And the joy that they breathe. I hold hope like a prayer, an offering laid at the bare-feet of a confused man on the street.
It could have been me….
Little by little, a little becomes a lot.
The puzzle is missing a piece,
I know its name by the empty shape that is left behind. The unfilled space in between what is and what isn’t.
And the colors that ask for closure? I will leave it blank.
Some might say it’s unfinished.
But I know the piece by its absence.
And that feels the same to me.

My last exchange with Jake was over text. I had found a box of flies he gifted to me three years ago while fishing in Bishop California. I’d been meaning to get in touch with him, and finding those hand-wound flies was the sign I needed. We reminisced on old adventures, and regaled a few new ones. At the core of our conversation was gratitude for life, and the time we had shared.
Initially, Jake was my sister Hannah’s older conservative boyfriend. Something I was particularly skeptical, and mildly belligerent of at 19. But Jake’s posture was one of integrity. His easy going approach to conversation, thunderous laugh, and yes, that marvelous mustache, won me over. More than that it was clear that he loved Hannah. Jake was a man who cared. A man who took the time.
Over the course of their relationship I grew to really look up to him. He was a man who connected deeply with the land, viewing it as both a teacher and a challenge of self reliance—a skill he was always honing. To him, a big house meant nothing if it wasn’t filled with family. Even after he and Hannah broke up, he continued to treat me like part of his tribe.
Jake walked his talk; building and opening a climbing gym in Redmond, making music with his band, and working on his family’s ranch.
Jake passed on 9/13/2025. As undeniable and devastating as this loss is, it’s also a testament to everything he added to the lives of those who knew him and the ripples he has sent into the community and beyond.
Life is a gift. It’s precious and beautiful, and not guaranteed. That truth moves me—not in fear of the losses that inevitably come, but in love of what is. Who I’m blessed enough to share the journey with, and the way that rain or shine the human spirit goes on. Here’s to a life well lived. A man deeply loved. An older brother I was gifted. And always time for one more cast! by @zaboukies

Of all the things that come and go, these memories will forever feel like home. There’s magic in the mystery, peace in releasing control. Love is the fascial lining of the universe. The connective tissue between all things. Even in Its absence, exists an invitation. An extended hand of hope and opportunity to step into compassion and choose healing.
Humbled and deeply honored to be surrounded by such passionate, creative, and kind humans. You move my spirit.

The natural state, is disorder.
Open the void,

Only the dismembered, can be remembered.
Threadbare, rewoven, the cosmic embroidery of some distant dream.
One who knows not that the prince of darkness is but the other face of the king of light knows not me,
That truth is sung in the forked tongue of duality.
All is holy,
Each breath a homecoming.
I don’t know where I’m going,
There is only my path.
Perhaps my ducks don’t want to be in a row, So who am I to force them?
The voice of wind is silent,
In the canopy above me, leaves whisper its translations——comprehended by that which does not recognize the borders of its own being.
The vulture spirals in and out of calligraphy, read only for a moment,
signed leisurely by death.
The coastal cliff stands a martyr,
Washed into the sea,
But the sand that lines the shore,
holds the mighty cliff in memory.

I’ve recently embraced the idea that I don’t know what my life’s purpose is. Rather, there are moments that give purpose to my life. Right time right place alignment, not by some chance of fate, but because I see the value and opportunity in each moment to be intentional and involved. Let go and let flow, doesn’t mean live passively, but instead calls me to loosen my grip and engage what is present; regardless of what that is, or what I want it to be. The opening of self to God/Universe and allowing myself to be the conduit for something greater to come through. I’ve found no profounder meaning than that of service to others.
My tea fortune today said “trust is the question, love is the solution.” In a time when our leaders/media/politics/gov. perpetuate narratives of fear, distrust, and hate, I believe that faith in our common humanity—even that of our perceived enemies—is the first step into compassion, which is a step towards forgiveness, and is truly an act of love.
Love is not a feeling. It is the action you take despite of what you feel. Without investment, expectation, or reciprocity. This is not to say “pass the spliff and sing Kumbaya” (although I’m not opposed;), the world is indeed a brutal place. A great deal stands in the way of a peaceful whole. This IS to say, however, that you, as an individual, are deserving of peace. The world doesn’t have to stand in the way of that. The answer is with in; perhaps it’s your faith, perhaps it’s academic pursuits, perhaps it’s meditation, or maybe it’s the rain, or the way desert juniper smells after a storm. All I’m saying is lean into it.
Because you ARE it.
When the individual doubts their importance and impact on the whole, suffering is allowed to continue. But when one heals themself, they give permission for the collective to also heal. To put down the weight, even if just for a moment, and breath.
I love you. I love you. I love you.
I’m sending you a hug, a real hug, not some side shoulder bs.
You are worth it. I believe in you—And hope you do too<3
