@j1ckmurphy and I drove down to Chatt last week and picked up @popcat_vis from Nashville on the way.

The rain and fog only cleared up for one and a half days out of the four we spent down south.

New Year’s Squeeeeeeze 🍊

@themainsqueeze played @orpheumflag last night and ended the year on a ~funky~ note

Their take on classics like Hendrix and Pink Floyd kept everyone singing and in awe at the same time — that something so classic could be redone and still keep the same level of mastery.

After the show ended, their plan to encore with War Pigs was quickly changed to keep the more danceable songs going. So the new year started with Shakedown Street and the town’s heart (and the @downtownflagstaff pinecone) showed itself proudly. taken in The Orpheum Theater by @zac_kitay

Last night was my first time hearing the incredibly talented @steelydeadband , a Steely Dan/Grateful Dead cover band, and they killed it.

While talking to the band afterwards, they had a unique thoughtfulness and attention to detail regarding their setlist.

They faded Steely Dan’s Only a Fool would say that directly into the Dead’s cover of The Beatles’ Dear Prudence to end the first set. Bassist @matthewabear , said that that Donald Fagen of Steely Dan respected both the Beatles and the Dead a lot, and that Only a Fool Would Say That was written about John Lennon’s hopeful lyricism. Choosing to follow the song with one of the most famous covers of The Beatles’ Dear Prudence was a nod at that fact.

@therealchrissheldon , the drummer summed up the band’s image well when talking about the styles of the bands that they cover. Steely Dan is very particular with complex songwriting and instrumentals while the Grateful Dead never really played the same song twice, constantly improvising and jamming.

 “We try to Dan up the Dead and Dead down the Dan,” Sheldon Said.

The Dip’s Love Direction Tour ⚫️🟢🔴
