After 30 years in elite sport, coming out was hard. I thought I would lose elite sport forever.

Instead the opposite happened: Yesterday I attended the Super Bowl because I am queer. It was an emotional day and a week I am very grateful and proud of. Visibility matters.

Thank you to the @nfl for their intentionality and partnership with @pridehousesf and @sflgbtcenter and thank you to @bayareahc for always making space for community amongst the corporate. Thank you to @athenaglobaladvisors for unreal attention to detail and lastly a massive thank you to my team at Pride House. We are all doing this as a passion project and your work doesn’t go unnoticed, people’s lives are better because of it.

The only thing more powerful than hate is love! ❤️ @badbunnypr

It matters. As a kid, I knew soccer was for me. I loved the game, I loved the pressure, and I loved the people from every background.

Something was missing. I looked up at my idols, and I never saw myself in them.

What I didn’t know then, but I know now, is that there were no queer men to look up to. No one like me.

So, on Tuesday, when @bayareahc launched their first wave of watch parties for this summer—and it included our @pridehousesf activations—it mattered. For the little boy who put cleats on and fell in love with the game (and snacks), it mattered. For the kid who loved the passion of competing and winning, it mattered. For the high schooler who wore the red, white, and blue in Argentina, it mattered. For the fan who wore a USA headband at Soldier Field in 2014, it mattered. For the player who had five surgeries in five years of college, it mattered. For the coach who worked every day and night to impact the lives of young people, it mattered. For the proud gay man who loves the game (with his @sfspikes) and loves his queer identity, it mattered.

And this summer, when the world descends on the Bay Area and there is a space for queer people to embrace the World Cup, it will matter.

So join us. Follow @pridehousesf. Donate if you can, and come out and celebrate that queer people are here, that everyone deserves joy, and that soccer is for everyone. 2026 is going to be a summer to remember. taken in San Francisco, California by @zacbrown88

🌈 Reimagining what’s possible through sport.

Congratulations to Zac Brown, Executive Director of Pride House San Francisco and recipient of the 2026 BAHC Originators Award, presented by @genentech.

Through Pride House SF, Zac has helped create a new blueprint for LGBTQ+ inclusion at major sporting events — mobilizing an all-volunteer team to host more than 30 inclusive events and reach 3,000+ community members during the Super Bowl and FIFA World Cup.

But the impact goes beyond the events themselves, with grassroots programs, wellness initiatives, coaching clinics and more than $100,000 raised to support inclusive spaces and local nonprofits.

This is what it looks like to turn big moments into lasting change.

Congratulations, Zac! 👏

Honored to receive the Originators Award from @bayareahc , presented by @genentech. 🏆

Standing alongside so many incredible Bay Area leaders leveraging sport for good is deeply humbling and inspiring. This award is a testament to the hard work of the entire @pridehousesf team, our incredible partners, and #TeamZac for always having my back.

The power of sport is unparalleled. We must continue to work everyday to ensure everyone has a place to thrive as their authentic selves in sport. While there is always more work to be done, taking a moment to celebrate our accomplishments is essential.

People make places.
People make memories.
The 2026 Men’s World Cup will always be about these people.
The best part is they are all still in my life 🥰

When Zac Brown came out as gay after a long career in soccer, the response was all positive. 'I feel it is my duty to be visible. I want to show up in every environment as my authentic, queer, badass, successful, quirky and not always perfect self.'
