📅 Your calendar is a theological document.
What repeatedly gets your time reveals what you believe matters.
And every yes spends something.
➡️ Yes to doing it yourself spends an opportunity to develop someone.
➡️ Yes to another commitment spends margin.
➡️ Yes to everything eventually spends you.
Before next week fills itself, ask:
⏳ What deserves my best time—not merely what is demanding my attention?
✅ Put it on the calendar first.
🤝 Delegate one thing.
🛑 Leave some margin.
This isn’t just productivity.
It’s stewardship.
🔖 Save this, then make one faithful change to your calendar.

🚐 If the #youthministry falls apart when you leave… 👀 it’s nice to be needed but that doesn’t make for good ministry… 👂 hear me out… “ but Zac that’s not totally fair!”
I get it. You can’t control every factor. People leave. Churches change. Budgets get cut. Sometimes you lead faithfully and things still don’t work out the way you hoped.
But I do think there is something deeply important about leading in a way that doesn’t make you the hero of the story or the center of the ministry.
Growing as a leader means learning how to give ministry away.
Giving away responsibility.
Giving away opportunities.
Giving away some of the control.
And, honestly, that takes time. It takes discipline, humility and people around you who will hold you accountable when you start carrying everything again.
The goal isn’t to make the ministry need you.
It’s to leave the ministry stronger because you were there and ready to keep moving when someone else is holding the keys. 🔑 #youthministry #churchleadership by @zacworkun

Your check engine light is on.
The hardest thing about burnout is that it rarely feels like burnout at first.
It feels like being committed.
It feels like carrying the weight.
It feels like doing whatever it takes.
It feels like another energy drink, another late night and another promise that you’ll rest after this week.
But eventually, your body starts keeping score.
You can’t rest when you finally get the chance. Small problems feel like personal threats. Your emotions rise and fall with attendance, responses and whether Wednesday “worked.” You’re physically present with the people you love—but your mind is already chasing the next task, text or crisis.
Those aren’t character flaws.
They may be warning lights.
Youth minister, you are not the Savior of your ministry. You can work hard (please do!), steward your calling (amen!) and care deeply without sacrificing yourself and your family on the altar of ministry success.

Tell your person the truth.
Let someone look under the hood.
Protect your sleep.
Talk with a counselor or pastor.
Drink some water before another energy drink.
Practice an actual Sabbath.
Release the outcomes to God.

You do not need another productivity hack.

You may need help, rhythm and room to become human again.

Which warning light have you been tempted to ignore?

Save this for the Thursday morning crash, but also send it to a youth ministry friend who needs permission to pull over before they break down. by @zacworkun

⏰ How bad is busy for #youthministry ? #theologyofwork by @zacworkun

🗓️ Your calendar is discipling your ministry...
We usually talk about busyness like it’s a personal problem: I’m tired. I’m behind. I need a better system.
But busy youth ministers don’t just feel busy.
⌛️ Our busyness leaks into the ministry.
It shapes what gets our attention.
It determines what gets rushed.
It changes how available we are to students, parents, volunteers our time with the Lord.
⏳ Eventually, the pace of the leader becomes the pace of the ministry.
So maybe the question isn’t just:
“How do I get everything done?”
Maybe it’s:
“What kind of ministry is my use of time creating?”
That’s a harder question. And probably a better one.

Student ministry can feel lonely, but you don’t have to lead it alone.

Maybe you’re trying to build a ministry that reaches students, develop leaders, create environments students actually want to invite their friends to, partner with parents, and somehow build systems that keep the whole thing healthy for the long haul.

That’s why we created the Throughline Student Ministry Cohort.

This fall, I’m bringing together student pastors from across the country for practical conversations with leaders who are doing this every week. We’ll talk about:

* Building programming around the mission of your church
* Building events, experiences & programming — Britton Bishop, Church on the Move
* Building growth by empowering adult volunteers
* Building outreach through school campus ministry — Montaega Harrison, United City Church
* Building systems to steward ministry for the long haul — Vince Parker, Life.Church
* Building parents who disciple & multiply — Zac Workun + Chad Higgins, Lifeway Students
* Building an evangelism culture in your student ministry

This isn’t another place to just consume content. It’s a chance to learn from other leaders, ask real questions, steal some great ideas, and leave better equipped to lead the ministry God has entrusted to you.

And before you commit, come check it out.
We are hosting a FREE PREVIEW — Thursday, September 17.

If you’re a student pastor who could use some fresh ideas, practical tools, and a community of people who understand what it’s like to sit in your seat, this cohort is for you.

Come meet our guests. Come meet the cohort. See if Throughline can help you take your student ministry forward.

Comment “COHORT” or DM me and I’ll send you the details. by @zacworkun
