Zambi, my best girl ❤️ We still had so many adventures left together.

Zambi was my world and most loyal companion. I strived to treat her with the kindness she deserved and give her the best life. She was happiest on a hike, especially if water was involved, in her woods exploring all the smells, or curled up on her bed in my office aka her “charging station”. My happiest hours, days, and moments were often with her, soaking up the sun, sitting amongst the wildflowers, having a river day, or celebrating a win or good trial day.

Zambi was always ready to try some silly thing I had in my mind. She was my intro to dog sports and we had so much fun and success together. In the end though, the memories I cling to are the quiet, content moments together when her eyes would blink softly and she’d gently sniff the surrounding air because her happiness was my happiness. She was my whole heart.

I’m so thankful for almost 10 years together, even though it will never feel like it was enough time. I did my best to make sure every moment counted.

There are two types of people: 1) those that get ravaged by mosquitoes and 2) those that walk away relatively unscathed (in comparison to person 1). I’m the latter, but my husband may as well be a blood bank.

I saw something recently that suggested body heat plays into their menu selection, so that would make a lot of sense in our case. Billionaires are flying 🍆 rockets into space and I feel like we still don’t have a good grasp on why mosquitoes prefer some people over others. I need answers.

So many mosquitoes on this insane hike, but I’ve got my system down: Sawyers’ picaridin lotion and permethrin treated clothes.

Maybe the benefit to our dry winter is that we won’t have a mud season.

See ya, 2025.

This year was rough adjusting to the loss of Zambi and all the happiness that she brought us. Despite that, Gavi thrived and kept us laughing every day. She found lots of animal remains to parade around, swam in all the rivers and lakes, hiked lots of miles, dug plenty of holes, and smothered (literally) her people in all the cuddles. We earned 6 titles in 2025 (TKN, RATN, RN, SIN, SEN, and SBN) and started our IGP journey (whatever that will look like). It’s been a joy to watch her mature this past year and see the pieces start to fall into place. Hoping for big strides in 2026.

To our friends that lost special dogs this year, we’re sending you so so much love. Starting a new year without a best friend in tow is difficult, to say the least.

Last alpine sunset of the season 😔

A long time ago (not going to date us), I met @sloppychopsco through Great Dane rescue. A couple years later, Laura started Sloppy Chops Co. I’ve been fortunate to not only be friends with Laura and geek out about dog training over the years, but I’ve also watched SCCo become what it is today. I was so excited about the rivet-on tags (because tag jingling drives me insane) and I’m loving all the new options SCCo is rolling out. Forever my favorite dog gear 🖤
