Damage was done. Visiting the Johshuya near Ohtani’s and Sasaki’s hometown of Kitakami and loading up on JDM tackle. So many @hideupofficial Coike baits, some cool domestic only urchins as well as JDM reels and rods. Bought all that I could fit in my luggage. So many baits so little space.

Just published a review of the @black_sheep_us Bakurai urchin bait. A high quality urchin with geometric shaped segments strategically located to catch and displace more water. One of the few urchins that seems to work just as well fished fast horizontally as dropped or hovered vertically. It also retails for less than other premium urchins. Link in bio

@illudebaits Lizzie 🦎 has a loud knock like the Rad Rat but with a flatter and wider belly this bait exhibits a smoother surface presentation than traditional rats with more lateral gliding action on the surface. Love the sick paintwork Lendl did on this one too which only makes the bait even more fun to fish!

First few casts with the @dranckrazy Bushidan Zanrai rod prototype. An absolute beast of a stick at 8’1” and designed for the biggest swimbaits from 5-22oz. and yet it still seems surprisingly light and capable of slinging lighter baits.

It is able to sling these mid sized baits due to a ln interesting load effect. The company built these rods from the ground up and uses some proprietary resins with @toray_fishing carbon and glass materials which is designed to improve weight and form factors. Features a carbon seat and Fuji SiC guides paired with carbon fiber grips that are finished with proprietary machined components. Can’t wait to see what the Zanrai can do targeting Fall fish this season.

The @black_sheep_us Bakurai Urchin has been extremely effective for me not only on the slow fall presentations but also really seems to drive the bite with a more aggressive jerk/pop style retrieve. The bait is constructed from TPE like other urchins but the ribbing and mace style ends of the tentacles generates more exaggerated movement and water displacement when the bait is fished quickly. It just seems to convert more strikes, and a simple jighead rigging works just fine when fished in this way.

The other nice thing is the bait isn’t crazy expensive at $12.99 for the 17mm

Night bites. Game on. @illudebaits Triple Double 🐀 bringing in those violent splash hits. Still my go to wood rat when fish are willing to eat on top. The Trip Dub still has one of the loudest knocks out there, drawing fish from far and deep. All wood 🪵 all good.

Fished the Dirty D with @metalflakemarvin . It was one of those days we had to grind it out on the Delta, but also a great opportunity to try out some new baits and patterns to target fish at various depths. Finally converted a few during short bite windows with some new Donkey Slayer patterns trimmed down for Fall, a few frog fish on the @nishine_lure_works BQ frog and a new urchin bait from @black_sheep_us called the Bakurai which has extra mass and ribs to displace more water as it is moved. Interesting design I’ll be fishing more over the coming weeks.

Still a very fun day on the water and it’s tougher days like these that make me appreciate having to mix things up, try new baits, and keep slinging.

Night loadout for this evening. Like mixing it up with wood and resin knock and slosh style baits from @illudebaits and @sneakybaits303 and putting out a solid deep water thump with the Donkey Slayer big bladed vibrating jig paired with the glass beaded @rippn_lipps Youndertail.

Lighting things up with a @terracotta_outdoor headlamp that puts out 740 lumens and has both a UV and Red Light for easy rigging and hopefully landings

Excited that football is finally back! In the spirit of the @49ers vs Rams game in Australia I enjoyed some San Francisco Bay shark fishing with the Aussie branded Millerods DreamFreak rod while also watching the game and rooting for the Niners. High five Faithful friends! 🏈🦈👊🏼

Picked up this Toxic Baits custom Whippersnapper at the last @badnewsbass Summer of Smallie event and it has been getting it done with crankdowns during the day and wakes during the evenings. This and the Wade Hoggs are the two Toxics that I tie on first.

Had such a great time with Lendl, legendary luresmith and founder of @illudebaits throwing some of his classics as well as having success with his new baits like the Work Rat 🐀 which draws with a smooth walking action. Just a great day on the water talking baits, life, and lunkers!

Let it eat! The Pig 🐷 rod designed by @f5_rods and @acranford_fishing is purpose-built for forward-facing sonar techniques and precise control of 4-inch to 6-inch minnow presentations. It feels very light, sensitive, and crisp with ultra-sleek styling with a Torayca T1100G carbon fiber blank with NANOALLOY resin, Fuji K Series guides, and a custom carbon fiber monocoque butt section. F5 has really pushed the envelope in design and performance this season, both on swimbait and finesse rods!
