A few days ago over aperitivo in Milan, we somehow ended up talking about the English countryside. One conversation led to another, and before we knew it, we’d changed our plans and caught a train to Somerset. A few months ago I had gone down a rabbit hole researching our surname, “Smallcombe”, out of sheer curiosity and learned its roots were here. Today we stood in a place that has carried our family name for centuries. Just an appreciation post for my twin 🤍

What a unique honor it is to be able to say I have not only a twin, but a best friend. Sadly, not everyone in this life gets the privilege of finding someone to call their “best friend” but even more so, a built-in one.
No one will ever quite understand our relationship, I can’t even quite fathom it myself. There’s something so special that comes out of growing up with someone your whole life and going through absolutely everything together. Every stage of life, every awkward phase, every core-memory, etc… I’ll always thank God for you always being in my corner. Every scary first-day at a new school wasn’t so scary because I always had my best friend there already.
We understood each other from a very early age. We used to make up our own special twin language when we were babies that only we could understand, and I think we still communicate on another level without even having to say anything now as well. People often do what they’re accustomed to and try to compare us as twins, but I feel that there’s no real possible comparison to be made. We’re so different but also so similar, and even though we already share so many features, i still strive to be like you in many ways.
People sometimes laugh when I stand and look at you in awe because you’re so gorgeous to me, because to them we look the same to them. But I don’t care, I’m so blessed to be the one to see your contagious smile 24/7 and green eyes that reflect the world around them.
I could cry just thinking about the fact that every time I recall a nostalgic memory, you have the exact same one. I can say a certain phrase and you know it too, I can smell a certain smell and just as much as it brings me back to a memory, it also brings you back too, every movie reference & song lyric I quote, you catch it.
